AIG Women’s Open preview: TV times and betting tips
The second major of the year – and first on the LPGA schedule – comes in the shape of the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Troon. It’s the first time the the Women’s Open has been held aver the famous Old course that has previously hosted many prestigious events, including the Open on 10 occasions, the Amateur Championships, and the Senior Open.

Date: August 20-23, 2020
Course stats: Par 71; 6,649 yards
Course summary: An iconic track that is certain to pose a stiff test for players this week. This traditional links course boasts spectacular undulating fairways and manicured greens, with the unpredictable coastal weather sure to be a factor throughout.
Purse: $4.5 million

AIG Women’s Open betting: Each-way tips
Celina Boutier (28/1 with bet365) started with a bang on her return to competitive golf, finishing 2nd at the LPGA Drive On Championship, while her T18 at the Scottish Open last week is very encouraging. As a typically strong putter, Boutier will be hoping to convert her 69% GIR average into birdies and lead from the front to gain her first major championship.
Jodi Ewart-Shadoff (40/1) will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing missed cut last week at Renaissance, after securing top-5 finishes in her previous two events. The Solheim Cup regular should feel right at home under the pressure of a major championship, and is another player who will be looking to take advantage of her great GIR average. The 32-year-old represents great each-way value here.
Stacy Lewis (35/1) played fantastically when closing out a four player play-off to win the Scottish Open. This win will have provided plenty of motivation coming into a major championship, and I am sure Lewis will feel she has a chance to take this. As an experienced two-time major winner, and a links enthusiast, Lewis represents great each-way value and I am surprised not to see her closer to the favourites in the betting.
AIG Women’s Open betting: The long shot
Gemma Dryburgh (175/1) flew the flag for Scotland in emphatic fashion when winning back-to-back events on the Rose Ladies Series. A disappointing final round last week saw Gemma plummet down the leaderboard, but I’m sure she will be motivated to rectify that on Scottish soil again this week. Although a long-shot, Gemma deserves respect on her recent double victory, and at the price advertised she is worth a small each-way bet after proving she knows how to win.
AIG Women’s Open betting: Top tip
Minjee Lee (10/1) is a strong second favourite for this event, and it’s not a surprise based on her performances this season. In five LPGA events, Lee is yet to finish outside the top 25 including three top-10 finishes. A T16 finish last week will give her a good platform to progress from, and with the continuation of links golf this week she may be better prepared for this test.
