Our hopes in Hawaii! Sentry Tournament of Champions best bets
We’re back! The 2024 PGA Tour season is about to get underway, and we have some fresh betting tips for the Sentry Tournament of Champions
And just like that, we’re back! The 2024 PGA Tour season is here before we’ve had time to take a breath after a pulsating 2023.
No venue blows you away like the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Hawaii and we have a star-studded lineup ready to play at the Sentry Tournament of Champions
Defending champion Jon Rahm is a significant absentee after moving to LIV Golf, but this won’t dent the excitement of fans watching at the venue and from home.
Without further delay, here are the players we fancy to go close this week:
Sentry Tournament of Champions golf betting tips and preview
Venue: Plantation Course at Kapalua
Date: January 4-7, 2024
Course stats: Par 73, 7,596 yards
Defending champion: Jon Rahm (-27)
Xander Schauffele @ 16/1 with Oddschecker
Xander Schauffele made the cut in all 23 starts on the PGA Tour in 2023 and he virtually made the top 10 in half of those too. He has won seven times on the tour for the reason that he hangs around the top of leaderboards fairly often.
He has made three top-fives in six appearances at the Plantation Course, securing victory there in the 2018/2019 season too. Schauffele knows his way around this track.
The American was statistically sublime on the PGA Tour last year, ranking third in strokes gained in total and top-tenning in strokes gained in putting, from tee to green, and approaching the green.
Tom Kim @ 28/1 with Oddschecker
Tom Kim has made it quite clear what he is capable of on tour. He is a two-time winner at just 21 years old and he came fifth at the Sentry Tournament of Champions on debut last year.
He was 10th in scoring average and 14th in birdie average last season, statistics that stand home in good stead at Kapalua where the winning mark is always astronomically high.
Kim could certainly get off the mark for 2024 in Hawaii. He made nine top 10s in 2023 and finished 20th in the final FedEx Cup standings.
Sungjae Im @ 33/1 with Oddschecker
Sungjae Im has proved himself as a birdie machine on the PGA Tour. He was 17th in total birdies last season which led to 19 top-25 starts in 31 events in 2023.
He hasn’t won on tour since the 2021 Shriners Children’s Open, but he did fly under the radar to win the Woori Financial Group Championship on the Korean Tour last May.
You couldn’t say he will definitely win in Hawaii, but his price is tasty and with three top-13 finishes in three starts at the Plantation Course, there’s no reason to miss out on this action.
Best of the rest…
Hideki Matsuyama
For a major champion and an eight-time PGA Tour winner, not to mention three top-four finishes at Kapalua, Hideki Matsuyama appears a little big at 55/1.
Nick Taylor
Nick Taylor finished in the top 25 in half of his 30 starts on the PGA Tour last year. He came second twice and won his home open in Canada too. The World No.1 51 is 175/1 this week.
