Odyssey Ai-One Milled Seven T Putter Review: NCG Summary

5 star review
NCG SUMMARY

Odyssey have outdone themselves with the AI-One Milled putters. I can’t think of a different putter on the market that gives me the same premium feel that this putter gives me, behind the ball, it is absolutely stunning.

The shape of the Seven T is the familiar fang we all know and love where the lines are unbelievably square. The strike with the ball sounds excellent and the putts just always seem to go about the right distance

PROS

  • Super premium feel
  • Stroke Lab shaft
  • Lots of heads and weights to get custom fit into

CONS

  • Expensive

First Impressions

Taking the headcover off this putter gives you a special kind of feeling. The navy blue finish on the head contrasts well with the champagne-coloured insert, with the whole thing just feeling really expensive. The white lines on the top of the head contrast really nicely against the navy, making the putter easy to point at where you want to go.

I really like that this putter has interchangeable sole weights. Every golfer has a different style and putt on different greens, so having this option to dial in your feel is a nice touch from Odyssey.

NCG Review

The best putting season I ever had was with an Odyssey Seven, inspired obviously by Luke Donald’s run as world number one in 2011 and 2012. I’m not sure why I ever changed away from that putter, or where it has even gone, but getting my hands on the new Odyssey AI-One Milled Seven T, I was really looking forward to reintroducing the shape back into my life.

Right out the gate there is a lot to like about how this putter looks, but what really interests me is the new technology in the face. Odyssey have used AI (presumably the same clever AI that designed the Paradym) to design the face so that ball speed from all strike locations stays consistent.

What the AI eventually came up with is a variable thickness design that allows shots from the toe and the heel to finish a lot closer to the hole than before. Ball striking with a putter isn’t something golfers often talk about but is a huge contributor to poor putting among amateur golfers.

Odyssey AI-One Milled Seven T Putter Review

I started my test in the obvious place – 40-foot putts. on such a long swing, I was pleased with how well-balanced the putter swung. I have quite a soft wrist putting stroke that allows me to feel the weight of the head more, and it felt great on putts of this length.

This could be thanks to the Stroke Lab SL90 shafts that have a 20 to 30-gram counterbalance weight that Odyssey have put at the top of the shaft in each putter. Adding weights to the sole means you need more weight at the top to balance the putter out, something Oddsey seemed to have done well with the AI One and the AI One milled putters.

I used this putter in an entire 2-hour practice session and got to grips with the feel from the face. I am not a robot, so it is hard to say how much exactly it improved my distance control, but Odyssey say it can improve your lag putting by as much as 20%, and those sort of gains could completely change your season.

Odyssey AI-One Milled Seven T Putter Review

Odyssey lovers will be all over the new AI-One Milled putters; they feature a significant step forward in putter technology that is trusted by the best players in the world. Jon Rahm put the technology in play long before the putter was ever announced, which is a massive testament to the increased performance.

Go get fit for an Odyssey AI-One Milled putter; you will not regret it.

About the author

Callaway Epic Max driver review
Jack Backhouse

A member of the PGA for 13 years, Jack has lived golf for more than half his life. Inspired by Tiger Wood’s winning putt at the 2008 US Open, an obsession began with watching slow motion golf swings on the internet and reading What’s In The Bag articles in magazines.

Not destined for a life behind the desk in a pro shop, Jack has focussed more on coaching, working closely with regional teams in North Yorkshire and helping golfers of all levels on their journey to enjoying playing the game more. Jack has coached many junior golfers into the county teams, and once worked with a player at the 2018 Open Championship at Carnoustie.

After letting his game fall apart prior to COVID, Jack rediscovered his love for playing golf after joining Silloth Golf Club in 2020 and whipping round the windy, firm links course. Playing regularly with a half set of clubs he has a passion for shot making and developing skill, and claims to have the sharpest 30-100 yard game in the North of England (only because he doesn’t know anyone in the South), and now maintains a +1 handicap at a club much closer to home, Sand Moor GC.

Jack has always tinkered with his equipment, once building his own Frankenstein one length set of clubs after watching Bryson DeChambeau burst onto the scene after winning the US Amateur. He firmly believes in getting custom fit and is happy to debate anyone about blade irons being superior to any other iron category.

Jack loves: playing quickly, 2 ball golf, match play, heathland courses, pencil bags, foursomes, Tiger Wood’s swing 2005-2009.

Jack hates: buggies, unnecessary trees, giving shots, the 7 iron loft debate, graphite shaft lovers weird superiority complex.
