The Race to Dubai is approaching crunch time.
Players on the DP World Tour (DPWT) are jostling for position to reach the playoffs, which end with the DP World Tour Championship. But for many, the situation is more delicate.
At the end of the regular season, the top 100 players in the Race to Dubai secure category 10 membership status, which almost guarantees a full playing schedule. If you’re ranked between 101st and 110th, you have conditional status and will be initially ranked below Q-School graduates for 2027.
This is what Eddie Pepperell is facing.
Heading into the DP World India Championship, Pepperell is ranked 100th in the Race to Dubai. He is right on the bubble of near full DP World Tour eligibility for 2027.
His journey to this point hasn’t lacked drama, either. The popular Englishman, who has won twice on tour and built a large army of fans who listen to him on the Chipping Forecast podcast, was granted a sponsorship invitation to play in the Open de España last week.
Teetering on the brink of missing the cut in Madrid, he fist-pumped home a gutsy birdie to make it to the weekend. He came tied for 55th, banked 15.83 points and climbed one spot to 100th in the Race to Dubai standings.
For comparison, last week’s winner Grant Forrest climbed 91 places to 27th in the Race to Dubai. He is now in the Playoffs, so this provides an idea of how many points are on offer in different places on the leaderboard. It also illustrates the kind of finish Pepperell might need to bank enough points to be safe for next season.

Eddie Pepperell: DP World Tour season approaching a dramatic conclusion
There is one more event left next week before the two-leg playoffs start, the Genesis Championship, but he isn’t currently in line to play.

“There’s playing for things like playing rights, but that’s not been truthfully on my mind that much,” Pepperell told the DPWT in Spain.
“I’ve been injured, so that’s kind of been the big thing, just trying to play through some of the discomfort there, which I managed to do well last week (at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship).
“I’m not thinking too much about that stuff. I could have thought about that for three years now at this point. It just drives you mad. I’m still just trying to play better golf.”
The event in Delhi was Pepperell’s final appearance of last season, in which he finished outside the top 100. He went to Q-School and earned his card back, shooting a final-round 66 at Infinitum to claim his status for this season.
He will hope to avoid the last-chance saloon of Q-School again.
There has been good and bad for the 35-year-old in 2026. He came fifth in South Africa at the start of the season, but missed five cuts since. He withdrew from the Nexo Championship in Scotland with an injury, and wasn’t fit enough to play in France, either.
He joins a star-studded field playing this week in the penultimate event of the regular season. Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Patrick Reed, Aaron Rai, Ryan Fox, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose and Luke Donald have all made the trip to India.
Often with his wife Jen caddying for him, you can expect to see more ups and downs and hear from fans online, frantically updating the leaderboard and checking Pepperell’s progress.
