Bazza’s Banker: Minjee Lee @ 14/1 with Bet365
The World No 2 is a big player on links golf courses, and while her last couple of results may have been below par for her undoubted quality, I can see her adding a third major championship to her CV this week.
A runner-up finish at the PGA Championship and a win at the US Open make her 2022 major championship record very appealing, while top-20 finishes in 10 out of 12 starts this year demonstrates the consistency which makes her such an exciting golfer to watch.
The Each-Way Play: Georgia Hall @ 22/1 with Bet365
In contrast to Lee, Georgia Hall is arriving off the back of consecutive top-20 finishes. The 2018 Women’s Open champion has had a steady year, with six top-20 finishes, but is yet to kick into top gear and with her two recent performances she looks as if her run into the Women’s Open has been timed perfectly.
Hall was T2 in this event last year, and while she will need her best stuff to win another major championship this time around, she appears to have a great chance at a reasonable price.
The Long Shot: Yuka Saso @ 70/1 with Bet365
Yuka Saso is an interesting prospect this week, especially as a former major champion at a huge price.
Saso started the year on fire, with sixth- and third-place finishes in her first two starts. Since then, a collection of top-20s have shown she has the ability to produce great golf when firing – so I am prepared to chance her at 70s.
Saso ranks 5th in Driving Distance, 16th in Putts-per-GIR, and not to mention ranking 1st for Eagles this season on the LPGA Tour. This is certainly a could go either way selection, but the numbers make enough sense.
