The FootJoy HyperFlex was first introduced in 2015 and, at the time, it was billed as the most distinctive shoe category to date. Jump forward to the latest 2025 iteration, which FootJoy say has had one of the quickest adoption rates on tour, with the likes of Justin Thomas seen donning the HyperFlex 2025.

So let’s take a look at the updated model for this year with our FootJoy HyperFlex 2025 golf shoe review.

FootJoy Hyperflex 2025 Golf Shoe: First Impressions

With regard to FootJoy footwear I’m more familiar with the Pro SL range, and I particularly enjoyed testing and wearing the Pro/SLX Carbon which was a favourite of mine for last year and is still part of the FootJoy stable. What I particularly liked about that model was the blend of looks, performance and comfort.

And along comes the HyperFlex 2025 which comes in at 430gms, pretty similar to the 415gms for the Pro/SLX Carbon. But the similarity ends there. The HyperFlex is constructed from a performance mesh upper, providing a modern look, whereas the Pro/SLX Carbon offers a more traditional ‘golf shoe’ appearance with a premium Chromoskin leather upper.

And I think this is probably the only weakness I can find with the new HyperFlex in that the looks may be athletic, but are somewhat generic.

The mesh upper of the HyperFlex is waterproof (12 month guarantee), breathable and also coated with a durable easy-to-clean substance for ease of care. There is plenty of soft padding around the entry to the shoe and tongue. There is a new Ortholite R & R fitbed, which stands for Rebound and Recovery. The heel piece feels soft and padded, but still supportive. The TPU saddle on either side of the shoe is designed to conserve and manage energy.

This is a spiked shoe with 6 Pulsar cleats from SoftSpikes per shoe. There are also multiple nubbins and foils to ensure a secure footing.

I even appreciated the reasonably subtle branding, with a modest FJ motif over the outer heel, and a smaller logo on the lace holder.

I tested the white/grey model, which has splashes of orange and black. There are also grey and black options which may be more suited to winter golf. And, try as I may, the looks really do not inspire.

Previous experience has taught me that you should almost certainly drop down half a size when choosing FootJoy. I’m normally a UK 7.5 (wide) but the UK 7 in medium width fitted just perfectly in this model.

NCG Verdict

It seems that with each successive FootJoy shoe review I do, they get more comfortable, and the new HyperFlex is no exception – it delivers outstanding comfort. My foot felt securely cosseted and so well supported from toe to mid foot through to heel. I cannot recall enjoying wearing a golf shoe more than this model.

I have worn this shoe on several rounds at my home heathland course in typical spring conditions. My feet have remained dry throughout, and although I haven’t yet had the opportunity to wear them for 36 holes in a day, I am sure that they would be fine.

And on those uneven lies, including fairway bunkers, the HyperFlex offers outstanding stability and traction. One minor point is that the shoes need careful lacing to ensure the TPU saddles are properly engaged and supportive but it’s straightforward enough to do that.

The HyperFlex is also easy to care for; a simple wipe clean with a damp cloth keeps your shoes looking pristine.

So, yet again, FootJoy delivers with the 2025 HyperFlex, offering unrivalled comfort, traction and stability. If you are in the market for a new shoe, you really should include this in your shortlist.
