Cobra’s maximum forgiveness driver sounds and feels a lot different to other drivers out in the market this year. Its largely carbon head feels solid across the entire face and produces shots that consistently get in play.
The hot ball speeds, draw bias and high launch make this a brilliant all-rounder for players who want that premium performance but also need a little bit of help getting the ball in the fairway more regularly.

Cobra LTDx Max driver review: First Impressions
The Cobra LTDx Max driver looks the business. Its carbon matte finish crown is subtle but accented with loud orange that really stands out. The graphics on the sole look great, and the adjustable weights contrast nicely with the head; when you stand on the tee with this club, all your playing partners gravitate towards it and want to have a look.
Cobra LTDx Max driver review: NCG Verdict
As soon as this club arrived at my door I was eager to hit it. The Carbon head feels light when you waggle the driver and you really feel like you can generate some swing speed and give it a real thrash. Cobra this year have increased the amount of Carbon used in the head and reduced the weight of the titanium frame which means the LTDx Max is built for speed.
It took a few swings to get used to the lighter head as it does feel pretty different to a lot of other drivers I have tested this year, but as soon as I found the centre of the face I no longer had any doubts about it. It feels so solid at impact it was almost like the ball wasn’t there, the flight was high and seemed to stay in the air for ages.
I don’t normally lean towards a draw-biased club, but the weights on the LTDx Max are adjustable so you can tone it down. I still averaged a left spin axis tilt (which means the ball drew) but the ball didn’t come out straight left which I sometimes do see with draw bias clubs.
I am always pleased if I can carry the ball 260 or above, so to average 259.9 yards with my longest being over 280, this club is no slouch for distance. The spin is quite high at 2844 rpm, but this is what you’d expect in the ‘most forgiving’ driver in Cobra’s lineup.

The Cobra LTDx Max driver felt so great in testing that I actually swapped my normal driver out of the bag for a few weeks so I could give it a more thorough try. I loved hitting the driver on a calm day or downwind as it seemed to go forever in the air, but into the wind, I would sometimes see the ball stall out with its high launch and higher spin flight characteristics.
The Hzrdus Smoke 6.0 shaft I used in the Cobra LTDx driver felt brilliant and seemed to compliment the head really nicely. Cobra have also done a great job with their new club face, which is computer designed and features varied thickness across the face to produce good ball speeds regardless of strike location. The strikes really do feel wonderful and distance didn’t drop off too much on bad hits.
Overall, this is a great option for all golfers, and shouldn’t be discounted by players who usually turn their noses up at ‘forgiving draw bias’ drivers. The distance it produces is great and with it being so forgiving all players can benefit from more shots in play off the tee.
