Shorts are very popular on the golf course these days. Who doesn’t feel better playing in shorts and a polo-shirt?

Glenmuir have hit the nail on the head with the g.Jackson range. They fit brilliantly and provide the right balance of style and comfort. I loved the Linen coloured shorts but you can choose from black, navy, light blue and even tartan!

The waistband sits comfortably and secure and the stretch in the shorts means that they move as you do.

The moisture wicking material ensures that you stay cool throughout your round.

For those that crave individuality, you can even personalise the shorts via the Glenmuir website. Get these in your wardrobe for the hot days ahead

The long summer evenings bring extended golf opportunities but when the heat goes out of the sun you need to be prepared with mid-layers to keep you warm. This market is pretty saturated with all brands providing their option for a quarter zip to pull on.

Glenmuir have really hit the mark with their offering. The top is incredibly lightweight and a great design. The stretch capabilities make it instantly move with your swing and it is incredibly comfortable. The material provides a thin barrier that is just right when you need something to take the edge off the cold. However, this will not keep you warm in cooler conditions, without the appropriate layering to go on top.

With some great detailing around the zip and collar, Glenmuir have produced a great option for anyone who wants a go to quarter zip this summer.

Glenmuir Mens Cotton Dryburgh Golf Socks

    5 star review
Glenmuir Men's Cotton Dryburgh Golf Socks | Source: NCG
Glenmuir Men's Cotton Dryburgh Golf Socks | Source: NCG

Not the easiest thing to review, but these are actually very good. I’ve often found no-show socks don’t stay in position and end up slipping down mid-round, but these stayed put the whole way round with no issues at all.

They fit well and grip the foot nicely, which makes them comfortable over 18 holes. The cushioned sole and breathable cotton fabric help keep your feet cool and comfortable, even when you’re walking a full round. They’re very lightweight and do exactly what you want from a no-show sock – you barely notice you’re wearing them. Ideal to wear with shorts, especially in warmer conditions.

Overall, a simple product that does its job really well.

    PROS

    • Stay in place all round
    • Comfortable with good grip
    • Lightweight and breathable

    CONS

    • Not much to say – they just work!

    RRP: £12.00

Anyone who knows me knows that I am always keen on a new golf shirt! I feel that a golf shirt, in addition to performing well and allowing your swing to proceed un-inhibited, should allow you to play golf in as comfortable a way as possible and should make a statement about you as a golfer! This is a gorgeous shirt, and I really like the design – which is available in four colours.

The buttons at first seemed quite thin but then only to realise that they are real mother of pearl!  Classy indeed! This polo looks better than many performance polos.

The fit is as expected, and the stretch material makes it quite a comfortable shirt with a fairly traditional cut.

The fabric is breathable, moisture wicking with UV protection. This shirt is consistent with Glenmuir’s performance polo offerings with comfortable all-day wear and solid warm weather use.

This is a great feature-packed addition to my ever-expanding golf wardrobe!

     PROS

    • Stylish shirt
    • Loads of performance features
    • Great fit

    CONS

    • Mainly for warm weather use

    RRP: £65.00

    Sizes: S-XXL

      Glenmuir Ross – Mens Trousers

    5 star review
Glenmuir Ross trouser | Source: NCG
Glenmuir Ross trouser | Source: NCG

Glenmuir do make great golf apparel, and the Ross trousers are no exception. They come in 5 colours including a tartan which looks fantastic. Golf trousers can be very restricting but not so the Glenmuir Ross. Made from 92% performance polyester and 8% elastane they are extremely light and comfortable as well as having superb stretch.

The material also has breathability and moisture wicking properties to add to their overall excellent performance. A couple of discrete logos set the look off nicely. There are 2 pockets at the front and back, all of which are deep. An excellent-performing and classy-looking pair of trousers.

    PROS

    • Sleek look
    • Excellent performance
    • The tartan ones look awesome!

    CONS

    • None

     Glenmuir Johnstone Golf Gilet

    5 star review
Glenmuir Johnstone wind vest gilet | Source: NCG
Glenmuir Johnstone wind vest gilet | Source: NCG

A comfortable, well-fitting gilet that does exactly what you want it to. It has a snug fit, but the stretch in the material means there’s no restriction at all through the swing, which is key.

It works well layered and I had no issue wearing it over a thicker jumper when needed. It provides that essential extra barrier in cooler, windy conditions without feeling bulky. The lightweight stretch polyester fabric makes it easy to move in and comfortable to wear over a full round.

The zipped side pockets are practical, and the subtle branding on the side and back gives it a slightly more premium feel without being over the top. It’s a classic wind vest; nothing complicated, just a reliable piece you’ll reach for regularly. Easy to pack, easy to wear, and fits into pretty much any golf wardrobe.

    PROS

    • Lightweight with good stretch and movement
    • Easy to layer without bulk
    • Practical pockets and clean design

    CONS

    • Probably not a winter gilet

    RRP: £95.00

     Glenmuir Cowan Logo Golf Cap

Glenmuir Cowan logo cap | Source: NCG

A simple, comfortable cap that does exactly what you need it to. It fits well on the head and is easily adjustable, so you can get it sitting securely without any fuss.

The peak is a good, standard size, with enough depth to give you the right amount of shade without feeling oversized or getting in the way.

It’s a clean, classic design, with the Glenmuir 1891 logo as the main feature, so it will appeal to anyone who likes the brand and wants something straightforward.

Being unisex is a nice bonus too – it meant my wife could steal it if needed!

Overall, a reliable, easy option that you can wear round after round.

    PROS

    • Comfortable, adjustable fit
    • Good coverage from the peak
    • Clean, classic design

    CONS

    • Logo-led design might not suit everyone

    RRP: £30.00

      Glenmuir Ladies Lexi Visor

    4 star review
Glenmuir Lexi Soft Peak Performance Visor | Source: NCG
Glenmuir Lexi Soft Peak Performance Visor | Source: NCG

This is definitely one of the more fun visors I’ve worn. I had the black/cheetah version to try, which feels a bit bolder than I’d usually go for – but I really liked it. Paired with the matching skirt, it made the whole outfit feel really put together on the course (and slightly raised expectations of how well I should be playing!).

Fit-wise, it’s really comfortable. It sits lightly on your forehead without feeling tight and stays in place nicely throughout the round. The adjustable strap makes it easy to get the right fit without any fuss.

The peak is a great size too – enough to shield your eyes without feeling oversized. It does exactly what you need it to, while adding a bit of personality.

There are lots of colour options available, but if you fancy something a little different, this one definitely stands out.

     PROS

    • Comfortable, lightweight fit
    • Fun, standout design
    • Adjustable and secure

    CONS

    • Bolder style may not suit everyone, but they have plenty of plain options too

    RRP: £30.00

Glenmuir Victoria – Ladies Zip Collar Printed Golf Dress

    4 star review
Glenmuir Ladies Zip Collar Printed Golf Dress with Detachable Shorts | Source: NCG

I don’t usually wear dresses for golf – in fact, this is the first one I’ve ever tried, but I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable this is to play in.

The fit is easy and relaxed, and the fabric has enough stretch to move freely through your swing. The separate shorts are a real plus too, they stay in place and don’t ride up, which makes a big difference when you’rewalking the course.

I like the zip collar, which you can adjust depending on how you want it to sit, and the sleeves are great if you prefer a bit more coverage on your arms. The length is spot on as well, no concerns when bending or taking a shot.

My only slight hesitation with golf dresses in general is that they don’t always give much shape through the waist, and this is no exception. That said, it’s a really comfortable and practical option and they have lots of funky designs to choose from on the website, so if you love dresses this is great option and a good price.

     PROS

    • Comfortable with good stretch
    • Shorts stay in place and don’t ride up
    • Flattering length with secure zipped pockets

    CONS

    • Limited shaping through the waist

    RRP: £85.00

Glenmuir Arwen – Ladies Golf Shirt

    5 star review

Glenmuir Arwen Ladies golf polo shirt | Source: NCG

What a great polo — it’s one of those pieces that feels simple but has just enough detail to elevate it. The scalloped edging on the sleeves and collar is such a lovely finishing touch and makes it feel a bit more feminine and styled than a standard golf top.

The fit is spot on. I wore a size 12 and it sat perfectly — flattering without being tight, and really comfortable to move in. The fabric feels breathable with a nice amount of stretch, so it works well through a full round.

I also liked the gold button detail, which adds to the overall smart feel. Paired with the matching skort and visor, the whole outfit came together really nicely.

It’s also available with personalisation, which would be great for team events, and you can even get it with The Open logo.

    PROS

    • Flattering, comfortable fit
    • Stylish scalloped detailing
    • Great option for personalisation

    PROS

    • Nothing at all

    RRP: £65.00

Glenmuir Emeli – Ladies Golf Skort

    5 star review
Glenmuir Emelie Ladies Performance Skort | Source: NCG

I really loved this skort — the length is absolutely spot on for me. It’s not too short, which means you feel comfortable and covered when bending down to take a shot, but it still looks stylish and flattering.

The fit is true to size (I wore a 12), and the fabric has a great amount of stretch, so it moves easily with you throughout the round. The built-in shorts are excellent too — they stay in place and don’t ride up, which I’ve found can be an issue with other skorts.

There are two zipped pockets which are great for keeping essentials secure, although I did find myself instinctively reaching for a back pocket which isn’t there.

The cheetah print is fun and a bit different, but there are plenty of other colour options if you prefer something more understated. I also love that you can personalise it, my version wasn’t but this could be a really nice touch.

     PROS

    • Flattering, comfortable length
    • Great stretch and true to size
    • Secure zipped pockets and non-riding shorts

    CONS

    • No back pocket

    RRP: £85.00

    Sizes: 8-18

Colours: Navy, light blue flowers, navy/white gingham, navy/raspberry mosaic, linen mosaic and linen/black cheetah

    About the author

    Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
