Original Penguin was all the range in the heyday of Palmer, Nicklaus, Player and so many more. More recently Cameron Smith encapsulated a revival of the brand to the big time in golf when he won The Open Championship at St Andrews in 2022 wearing the iconic Pete the Penguin logo.

Founded in 1955, the brand quickly grew a reputation for producing, what are considered now to be, classic golf shirts. For 2026, their style has evolved to often adopting quirky designs that are certainly out there.

Original Penguin Lightweight Jogger

I’m not saying I’m becoming a grumpy old man, but the words ‘jogger’ and ‘golf course’ fill me with a certain terror. I’m wary of turning up at the club in my new-fangled fashion only to for the eyes of the room to be on me. 

The Original Penguin Pete Performance Golf Jogger solves all those problems. They combine the comfort of a jogger with the look of a more traditional golf trouser. If it wasn’t for the zips at the hem, you’d be hard pressed to distinguish them from any other hosiery out on the fairways and greens. 

But they are different. They’re far lighter than your conventional pants and the polyester-elastane mix prioritises comfort. The covered waistband, framed a by a silicone gripper within, means they stay in place – ending the days of having to constantly pull up your trousers as you complete a swing.

Original Penguin Pete’s Bow Tie Polo 

If you’re looking for a colourful polo shirt for the summer, then the Pete’s Bow Tie Polo is just for you! Available in two colours – Pirouette Pink and Black Iris – the Pete’s Bow Tie Polo brightens up the golf course. 

The polo is emblazoned with the Original Penguin logo – Pete the Penguin – on the left breast, and thanks to its lightweight single knit fabric, it is also breathable and moisture wicking, if you get caught in a summer shower. 

The one downside to the Pete’s Bow Tie Polo would be that it is on the slightly expensive side at more than £50, but if you’re looking for a quality item, then this is perfect. Comfortable, colourful and stylish, it is definitely something that I would wear on a bright sunny day!

Original Penguin Victory Crest 9’ Shorts 

I love the Original Penguin brand, but this is the first I have tried their golf range. At first glance the shorts look like a smart but fairly standard pair of golf shorts. A second look and you will see the multiple crests embroidered on the shorts. This on its own makes them desirable.

The performance is as one would expect from a quality modern golf short. The material is 74% polyester, 20% recycled polyester and 6% elastane. As a result, they are moisture-wicking and stretchy. They feel good quality with some substance to them but are still lightweight.

Original Penguin Heritage Knit Track Jacket 

Unless it is the middle of summer, I am usually wearing some manner of outer layer golfing in the UK. This full zip jacket feels quite luxuriously soft. It promises to keep you warm even in the most challenging windy conditions. 

The jacket looks very stylish with colour matched nylon zips on the front and two side pockets. The original penguin logo is on the front left. The white contrast piping on the cuffs, pockets and lower seam is quite a nice feature. 

The jacket fits well and true is comfortable and warm. It has a nice trim fit but still allows a good range of movement on the course.

Original Penguin Heritage Lightweight Packable Gilet 

The Heritage Lightweight Packable Vest is very similar to many other gilets/vests you might see on the golf market. However, it does have one very useful feature. The inside right pocket can be removed from the vest to become a bag for the product to be folded and put away into, making it easy to pack into your golf bag.

Throw in the fact that the Heritage Lightweight Packable Vest is what it says – lightweight – and therefore comfortable on a hot day, and the fact that it has a nice sleek design (one available in a range of colours), and you have a great piece of kit.

It is thin, so it would not be something to wear in winter, but throughout the summer months, this is perfect for those that want something on top of a polo shirt!

I really like this item; the look is very clean and is extremely lightweight for the course.   The design is slightly more eye catching than previous Callaway Apparel garments, but they have struck a really nice balance of not being over the top and looking very smart.   On first look, I was really surprised in a positive way how lightweight the product is. It certainly doesn’t feel like it will wear down quickly but the comfort of it is really pleasant to wear. The stretch fabric is also great for full range of movement in the golf swing.  The fit is regular, easy to wear and strikes balances feel to performance and relaxed. PROSNSROSCONSCONSCONSThat’s noSo,PROSCONSGB PROSCONS I am generally a huge fan of FJ gear, and although this is a perfectly reliable trouser, it doesn’t stand out for me.  As the name suggests, you get a clean, slim and tapered fit with a flat front construction. It is suitable for on and off course wear which is a plus. There is a silicone gripper waistband which I think all trousers should have, but plenty don’t. The two side and two rear pockets are nicely sized.  The 88% polyester/12% elastane fabric offers 4-way stretch and is lightweight and moisture wicking. You get a choice of five colours and a load of sizes. I tested the 32/30 which ran true to size. So far, so good.    Where these trousers lose points is that the fabric feels rather synthetic, when compared to some higher end competitors, which are admittedly more expensive. Furthermore, the slim fitting style is not going to suit the chunkier golfer or those who prefer a more relaxed fit.  On the course, these lightweight trousers performed perfectly well and felt well put together. They don’t pretend to offer any weatherproof properties so work best in mild to warm weather conditions.    So, this is a comfortable and durable pair of trousers that are perfectly serviceable but just didn’t quite hit the mark for this reviewer, particularly when the rest of the FJ apparel range is so strong. So, what to say?    This is a smart genuine leather belt that comes in just one colour which is black. The belt is nice and thick and looks to be well-constructed. It is adjustable in that the original length of 40in is designed to be cut to size.   There are marks on the belt to assist with the cutting to size. The only point I would make is that there is a choice of five perforated closure holes, and I would have expected that the middle of the five holes would be 30in from the 30in mark. It was in fact an inch out, which I thought was unnecessary.  That said, it is straightforward enough to cut to size and, hey presto, you have your own smart custom-fit belt which looks like it will give years of useful service.
