  • Stories around the ryder cup

The Ryder Cup will take place on American soil at Bethpage Black in New York in 2025.

Team Europe will be the defending champions after their impressive 16.5-11.5 victory at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome in 2023.

The first Ryder Cup was held in 1927, but back then, it was Great Britain taking on the United States. That became Great Britain & Ireland in the 1950s, before becoming Continental Europe for the first time in 1979.

This time around, Luke Donald and Keegan Bradley will lead their respective teams into battle. Both men have had individual success, but Donald has the experience of winning the trophy in both a playing and captaining capacity. Bradley is yet to experience either.

Donald won with Team Europe in all four of his appearances as a player. Bradley is a one-time major champion and has two appearances in this competition, with his first being on the wrong end of the Miracle of Medinah in 2012.

This year’s edition promises to be a great contest between the two teams, with a famous venue in Long Island set to play host.

Betting Tips

HERE IS WHAT THE BOOKIES SAY AT BETWAY

Top European Points Scorer: Tommy Fleetwood – 11/2

This has probably been the best season of Tommy Fleetwood’s career. Not only did he win the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup, but if you read anything into data and statistics, you’ll find only Scottie Scheffler has been better.

This is his fourth consecutive start for Team Europe, and other than Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, you’d fancy Fleetwood as the next favourite to win a golf tournament now that he is a proven winner in the US. He can play in all formats, and although he has played in more home Ryder Cups than away to this point, he has a great record.

It seems he and McIlroy have a good partnership going if the last Ryder Cup is anything to go by. His only weakness would be his distance, but he excels in terms of accuracy and overall strokes gained on the tour. There is juice in his 11/2 price.

Top Rookie Points Scorer: J.J. Spaun – 5/1

J.J. Spaun is the US Open champion, and he almost backed this up at the FedEx St. Jude Championship if it weren’t for an inspired Justin Rose beating him in a playoff. Statistically, he hits greens and is very good approaching greens. He is ranked 10th in strokes gained in total on the PGA Tour, which would surely make him a good fit for both foursomes and fourballs.

While Scottie Scheffler seems to have forged partnerships with Russell Henley and Sam Burns in previous team events, J.J. Spaun could be another option to partner with the best player in the world. But in general, he has become a formidable competitor in 2025, only losing to Rory McIlroy at the Players Championship.

Where you’ve got Henley as the 15/8 favourite in this market, that seems short. Spaun seems big in that context.

The Draw – 12/1

There has never been a draw in America in the Ryder Cup, which probably explains why this is 12/1. But hear me out, as this could be a close match. The US side has quality with Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau at the top, but out of the rest, who else has shown star quality in 2025 that could earn the US team a load of points?

They are at home, which is a huge advantage. But there is no reason for Europe to be seen as underdogs on paper here. McIlroy and Fleetwood are two of the best players on the planet at the moment. They both recently won on tour, as did Justin Rose in August. They have a wealth of experience too, with virtually the same team playing in 2025 as in 2023.

Luke Donald’s continuity could trounce Keegan Bradley’s chaotic journey as captain. But they are at home, so this could all culminate in a draw. There’s value to be had here.

Ryder Cup preview 2025

When is the Ryder Cup 2025?

The 2025 Ryder Cup will be held from September 26 to September 28.

Where is the Ryder Cup 2025?

The Ryder Cup will be held at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York. It has two US Opens and a PGA Championship and is known as a savagely tough golf course.

How often is the Ryder Cup?

The Ryder Cup is played every two years. The last one was in 2023 and the next one is 2025. After the 2018 Ryder Cup, the next one was meant to be at Whistling Straits in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed this until 2021, so this is why the event now finds itself in a biennial rotation of odd years.

When do Ryder Cup 2025 tickets go on sale?

If you registered by midday on October 22, 2024, then there’s a chance you’ve got tickets through the PGA of America’s Random Selection process.

All applicants were notified if they were selected to purchase tickets. If you were selected by the Random Selection process, registrants had the chance to buy available ticket inventory on a first-come, first-served basis inside a designated window in November 2024 upon completion of the registration process.

You can read more about it in the links below.

Who won the last Ryder Cup?

Team Europe are the defending champions. They dominated Team USA in 2023 at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome, winning by five points which was largely thanks to sweeping the very first session of the tournament 4-0. They look a five-point lead into the final day and Tommy Fleetwood clinched the winning point.

Who are the captains for this year’s Ryder Cup?

Keegan Bradley will be at the helm of Team USA this year. Bradley won the PGA Championship in 2011. He has played twice in 2012 and 2014 and despite forming a great partnership with Phil Mickelson, but lost both times.

Team Europe captain Luke Donald is a former World No.1 and is a two-time winner of the BMW PGA Championship, the DP World Tour’s flagship event. Donald has a perfect record in the event, having been on the winning side in all four of his appearances, plus leading Team Europe to victory in 2023 as captain.

How can I watch the Ryder Cup?

The Ryder Cup will be broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK.

How does the team selection process work?

Team Europe and Team USA have similar qualification processes now that Europe has formed one points list for this time around, compared to the last system which used to use a World Points List and a European Points List.

The top six players on the European Ryder Cup standings receive automatic qualification into the team. Captain Donald will then pick six more players to make up his team of 12 to travel to New York with.

The US team will also feature six automatic qualifiers at the top of their own list with the captain choosing the other six players.

You can find out more details about how players accrue points and for how long they can do this here:

Who are the Ryder Cup vice-captains?

At the moment, European captain Luke Donald has acquired the services of Edoardo Molinari and Thomas Bjorn as vice-captains. They both served in the same capacity at the 2023 Ryder Cup.

On the American side, Keegan Bradley has recruited Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker and Jim Furyk.
