How much do Ryder Cup players get paid?

Have you ever considered if Ryder Cup players get paid to fight tooth and nail for the famous gold trophy?

It is a great honour for players from Europe and the United States to play at the Ryder Cup.

Each time the qualification process starts, every player has one aim: to compete for their respective teams and fight for the famous gold trophy.

The PGA Tour, the DP World Tour and LIV Golf take a backseat while the best 12 players from each team play collectively and not individually for one special week.

Prize money is a buzzword in the professional game now with payouts ever-increasing on the PGA Tour, even more so since the inception of LIV in June 2022.

But is there the same fixation during Ryder Cup week? Are players paid for playing in the Ryder Cup? And if so, how much will each player from Team Europe and Team USA pocket at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club?

Are Ryder Cup players paid?

The answer is a simple no. None of the 24 players who compete at the Ryder Cup get paid. Even the winning team aren’t compensated for their efforts.

The winning Ryder Cup team in 2023, whether it be the blue of Luke Donald’s Europe or the stripes of Team USA, will keep the trophy and an enormous sense of pride.

However, the PGA of America reportedly allocates $200,000 which the US players receive to give to charity. In 2021 at Whistling Straits, each player was given $100,000 for a charity of their choice.

American team player Daniel Berger gave $50,000 to Mia’s Miracle Foundation and $50,000 to St.Jude Children’s Hospital.

On the European side, the Ryder Cup captains have been known to dish out gifts. In 2018, the winning captain Thomas Bjorn reportedly gave a Rolex watch to each of his winning team members.

This was a tradition that began in 1983 with captain Tony Jacklin. When the event first began in 1927, players were compensated and British players had their travel, clothing and equipment allowance subsidised.
