Bridgestone’s e12 Speed golf ball is designed with a singular goal in mind, to deliver greater distance through a lower ball flight and reduced spin. This is one of three options from the Bridgestone e12 golf balls range. Each of the different models are tailored to meet the needs of the vast majority of amateur players who, according to Bridgestone, are using the wrong ball for their game. So, let’s find out if this ball delivers on its claims in our full Bridgestone E12 speed golf ball review….

NCG SUMMARY

The Bridgestone e12 Speed is built for golfers who prioritise distance above all else and it delivers that in spades. With eye-catching gains off the tee and solid numbers through the bag, this ball brings value and velocity together in a tidy package. I think its performance will suit mid- to high-handicap golfers, particularly those playing in breezy links or heathland conditions where keeping the ball flight down is crucial.

It’s not going to offer the buttery feel or zip of a urethane-covered tour ball, but it doesn’t claim to. What it does offer is a big, booming ball flight with real gains in total distance and that makes it a genuine contender in the value-performance category.

PROS

  • Excellent distance off the tee with low spin
  • Lower ball flight is ideal for windy conditions
  • Great value

Bridgestone E12 Speed Golf Ball Review: First Impressions

Straight out of the box, the e12 Speed positions itself as a no-nonsense distance ball. I found it offers affordability paired with purposeful engineering. This isn’t a urethane-covered tour ball – and it doesn’t try to be. Instead, it features a surlyn-like cover and Bridgestone’s ‘Gradational Compression Core’ as part of their “Opti-Flight” system aimed at launching the ball lower and rolling out further.

Also included is the ‘MindSet’ visual aid, which serves as a pre-shot routine alignment tool. I liked this thoughtful addition which will help players looking to add a mental focus element to their tee-to-green game.

NCG Verdict

Around the greens, the e12 Speed won’t give you that premium, soft feedback you’d find from a tour-grade ball. My spin rates with a wedge were on the lower side, approximately 5,500 rpm, and the launch was noticeably higher than what I expected, at over 30 degrees. Whilst I don’t think this will appeal to players who rely on short-game precision, it’s an acceptable trade-off considering the distance focus of the ball.

For me, the e12 Speed performed admirably from the fairway. My ball speeds off a 7-iron were consistent, touching highs of 120 mph and yielding an average spin rate around 6,500 rpm. Carry distances hovered around 160 yards, which ultimately rolled out to 169. These are more than respectable figures for my game that demonstrate the ball’s capability to hold greens while still pushing the envelope on length.

Bridgestone E12 Speed Golf Ball Review

This is where the e12 Speed shines – the driver! Driver ball speeds were clocking in at 160 mph, and the low spin profile allowed for impressive roll-out numbers. Total distances peaked at a massive 317 yards, with an average carry/totals around 279 to 300 yards. Those numbers compete with and even surpass the distances achieved with some of Bridgestone’s higher-end Tour B models.

Final Verdict

Overall, the Bridgestone e12 Speed does exactly what it says on the tin and then some. It offers real gains off the tee, lowers trajectory to deal with windy conditions, and still provides playable control from the fairway. While it won’t win over players who demand the soft, sticky feel of a tour ball around the green, it wasn’t built for them.

This is a really playable option for golfers who play in windy environments like links or heathland tracks, or for those simply wanting more from their long game. Bridgestone’s continued investment in player-specific ball technology shows here and the e12 Speed is a testament to that effort.
