Bermuda Championship staking plan
Peter Malnati – 1.75pt e/w @ 35/1 with bet365
Malnati has had a tremendous start to the new campaign, and after a week off to recharge I fancy him for another push here. Malnati was T5 at the Shriners two weeks ago when selected as a 200/1 shot in the NCG preview, and was runner-up at the Sanderson a week before. Unsurprisingly for someone who ranks in the top 10 of the FedEx Cup standings at this early stage, Malnati boasts some impressive stats that will certainly suit this course, including ranking 1st for SG: Putting and 38th for SG: Approach. Selection is justified on his recent form and course suitability, so fingers crossed the week off hasn’t halted momentum.
Kristoffer Ventura – 1.75pt e/w @ 33/1 with bet365
After a solid start to the 2021 PGA Tour season, it could be time for Ventura to finally make a strong challenge for his first title. The Mexican-born Norwegian has a couple of top-10 finishes to his name already in this campaign, and statistically he fits the profile here ranking 34th for GIR, 14th for SG: Putting and 29th for SG: Around-the-Green. With his ever-growing experience at this level, and in a somewhat weaker field, Ventura has a great chance to challenge here.
Emiliano Grillo – 2pt win @ 30/1 with bet365
Grillo has had a steady start to this campaign with four consecutive cuts and four top-35 finishes. He will no doubt fancy his chances here, on a course that rewards strong approach play, with Grillo currently ranking 6th for GIR on tour. The Argentinean would undoubtedly have had more PGA Tour success had his putter not been ice cold most weeks. But last time out in the Shriners, Grillo produced his best putting performance since the 2018 PGA Championship. This is very encouraging for a player we already know hits greens for fun, and can certainly get into contention this week if the putter behaves itself.
Ryan Armour – 1pt e/w @ 150/1 with Bet365
Fond memories of Armour securing huge place profits for us last season still exist whenever I see him so overpriced for a course that will surely suit. Although his form is somewhat less encouraging leading into this event, an 8th place finish at this event last season demonstrates he has the skill set to navigate this course effectively. As one of the most accurate drivers on tour, ranked 16th, he should give himself opportunities from the fairways. Armour has perhaps been unlucky to miss the cut three times this season, doing so each time with an under par score, therefore I will side with him again in the hope that his season really gets started here.
