NCG SUMMARY

A classic looking driver that is sure to grace our screens on the professionals tours this year. It suited my eye well behind the ball with the matte black finish.

Found the spin did reduce on the good strikes, but if I had the benefit of a custom fitting I could see that number drop even further. Overall, Srixon’s ZXi LS driver has gained a big fan.

First Impressions

Straight away the sole of the Srixon ZXi LS driver was different to that of the standard driver head. The driver is still equipped with a heavy and a light weight but instead of being on the heel and the toe to help change the ball flight, they are located towards the back and the from of the club head. This will allow the golfer to change the spin and launch of their driver quite dramatically.

The head is also a bit shorter, front to back, which gives it a more classic looking shape. Tour driver heads tend to be smaller in profile, as player feel they can work the ball a little bit more in terms of the shape of the shot.

For my eye, I really like the way this sits. A very classic shape that look good behind the ball, and if you throw in the matte black it looks pretty irresistible. A driver that, for my book, looks stealthy and fast.

NCG Verdict

There is some new technologically in the crown of the ZXi drivers. The crown is even thinner than it ever has been which has made the crown of the club really light. This has allowed Srixon to redistribute the weight around the head to optimise the distance.

Generally, something to avoid in a driver is the centre of gravity being too high because it’ll make the launch of the ball particularly low and not perform. So, taking the weight out of the head, adding it to the sole and moving it forward or back, depending on the player, is in my opinion the right way to go.

Srixon ZXi LS Driver Review

I found that this driver had a flatter flight and more run than the standard Srixon ZXi driver. At times it didn’t quite have the same carry distance and actually found it to spin more, but I put that very much down to the inconsistencies of human testing.

When I did strike the ball well I saw an increase in distance, a jump in ball speed and a decrease in spin rate. I was really pleased with the numbers from the Srixon ZXi LS driver.

Overall, I am a big fan of Srixon’s latest low spin driver. I think if I was custom fit and had the right shaft I would be able to get that spin from 2900 down to 2500 and I might ultimately gain another 12 yards of carry distance which would be fairly impressive.

If I was stood on the tee knowing I was going to carry the ball around 280 yards, I would be one satisfied golfer. Ball speed is also up on last year’s model and with the new crown and face technologies this is a driver certainly worth a go if you are an aggressive swinger.
