Dubai Duty Free Irish Open preview: TV times and betting tips
After a brief flit on the continent, the European Tour returns to UK soil this week. Scroll down for my Dubai Duty Free Irish Open betting tips, but first…
Venue: Galgorm Castle Golf Club, Ballymena, Northern Ireland
Date: September 24-27, 2020
Course stats: Par 70; 7,100 yards
Course summary: A tree-lined parkland that shouldn’t pose the players too many problems. Reasonable rough and undulating greens are defended by well-placed bunkers and water that comes into play on half of the holes. The course rewards accurate approach play, strong putting and creative scrambling when out of position.
Purse: £1.25 million
Defending champion: Jon Rahm (-16)

Dubai Duty Free Irish Open: Staking Plan
Dean Burmester – 1pt e/w @ 60/1 with bet365
Burmester will certainly fancy his chances of adding to his single European Tour victory this week, on a course that should suit his game perfectly. The South-African ranks 3rd for Driving Distance and 22nd for putting average, which is an advantage on a course that can be overpowered by bigger hitters. Four consecutive cuts made, including a T6 and a T21 finish, demonstrates that confidence is high and I like the value in Burmester to challenge for the trophy this week.
David Horsey – 1pt e/w @ 75/1 with bet365
The four-time European Tour winner performed excellently in his last start at a tricky Valderrama, securing his second top-10 in three starts. An impressive weekend at the Celtic Classic recently saw him go close again, posting a 65-66 finish, and this test shouldn’t be too dissimilar. Statistically he fits the bill here, ranking 24th in putting average, 39th in scrambling and 40th in SG:Approach. On a course that rewards accurate approach play and strong putting, this should be a challenge that Horsey relishes on his quest for a fifth European Tour victory.
Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez – 0.5pts e/w @ 125/1 with bet365
Garcia Rodriguez arrives here off the back of a T6 finish in Portugal last week, and at a big price could well surprise a few. The Spaniard posted a ten under-par 62 in the opening round at The Hero Open recently, catching the eye of many on the European Tour. After struggling for form since that event, A top-10 last week will bring much needed confidence to a venue where he finished 14th last season. If he can start fast, as he did at The Forest of Arden, we may well capitalise on a big price this week.
Joel Stalter – 0.5pts e/w @ 225/1 with bet365
I am a little shocked to see Stalter at this price here, despite missing three consecutive cuts. The Frenchman was a winner only five starts ago, and that victory was sandwiched in between two top-30 finishes, which shows that Stalter has the ability to contend. If Stalter can find the sort of form that helped him post 14 consecutive under-par rounds recently, he could secure excellent each-way profit.
