Srixon’s premium Z-Star line has long offered something for every serious golfer, and the Z-Star XV is its longest and lowest-spinning model yet. Sitting alongside the standard Z-Star and the Z-Star Diamond, this ball is the powerhouse of the trio. It is engineered for explosive distance without compromising on greenside feel, but how did we find it? Find out in our Srixon 2025 Z-Star XV golf ball review…

NCG SUMMARY

The Srixon Z-Star XV is a compelling choice for stronger players who want distance off the tee and elite control around the greens. It won’t suit everyone, especially those who like a softer feel, but it more than holds its own against premium tour offerings from other brands. In firm conditions and blustery weather, it could be your secret weapon.

PROS

  • Outstanding wedge spin and control
  • Low driver spin for long, penetrating tee shots
  • Premium feel and durability

Srixon 2025 Z-Star XV Golf Ball Review: First Impressions

Right out of the sleeve, the Z-Star XV gives off serious tour-level vibes. I thought the dimple pattern was clean and sharp, and the urethane cover feels premium to the touch. On the putting green, the firmer compression is immediately noticeable. There’s a lively click off the face, but it still maintains that familiar Srixon responsiveness. For players who know their way around performance golf balls, it signals business from the very first strike.

NCG Verdict

The 2025 edition arrives with a few upgrades. At its core lies the FastLayer DG 2.0 construction, a multi-density core that starts soft in the centre and gradually firms up toward the edges. This clever layering gives the ball a feel and performance akin to having countless layers, enhancing both energy transfer and consistency off the face.

Srixon Z-Star XV Golf Ball Review

The cover is also brand new: a thicker urethane skin is paired with Spin Skin+, a textured coating designed to increase grip on wedge and short iron shots. Paired with a redesigned 338 dimple pattern, the Z-Star XV is engineered to fly straighter in the wind while maintaining distance integrity.

Starting out from 50 yard shots, I thought the Z-Star XV shone. I was able to generate 7800 rpm of spin with a 29.5° launch, whilst the golf ball offered superb consistency and bite around the greens. That enhanced spin and control will be appreciated on firmer UK surfaces where a quick stop is vital.

Srixon Z-Star XV Golf Ball Review

With a 7-iron, the performance was solid if not blistering. 116 mph ball speed and 6300 rpm spin was a return I was pleased with and delivered a 160-yard carry and 169-yard total. These numbers sit just short of top-tier expectations, particularly in ball speed, but the control and flight were consistent. For many players, especially those who value precision into smaller greens, that’s a trade-off worth making.

However, it is driver performance where the Z-Star XV really flexes its muscles. At 159 mph ball speed, with a spin rate of 2300 rpm, I was bale to record 276 yards of carry and rolled out to 295 total. While the 105-foot peak height is relatively low, that flatter flight will be a real advantage in windy conditions.

Srixon Z-Star XV Golf Ball Review

Final Verdict

Overall, the Srixon Z-Star XV may not be the fastest ball off the irons or the softest off the face, but it’s impressively well-rounded. I think this particularly applies for players who demand both distance off the tee and elite control into the green. It’s clear Srixon continues to build on its reputation for offering high-performance tour balls at strong value.

Callaway Epic Max driver review
Jack Backhouse

A member of the PGA for 13 years, Jack has lived golf for more than half his life. Inspired by Tiger Wood’s winning putt at the 2008 US Open, an obsession began with watching slow motion golf swings on the internet and reading What’s In The Bag articles in magazines.

Not destined for a life behind the desk in a pro shop, Jack has focussed more on coaching, working closely with regional teams in North Yorkshire and helping golfers of all levels on their journey to enjoying playing the game more. Jack has coached many junior golfers into the county teams, and once worked with a player at the 2018 Open Championship at Carnoustie.

After letting his game fall apart prior to COVID, Jack rediscovered his love for playing golf after joining Silloth Golf Club in 2020 and whipping round the windy, firm links course. Playing regularly with a half set of clubs he has a passion for shot making and developing skill, and claims to have the sharpest 30-100 yard game in the North of England (only because he doesn’t know anyone in the South), and now maintains a +1 handicap at a club much closer to home, Sand Moor GC.

Jack has always tinkered with his equipment, once building his own Frankenstein one length set of clubs after watching Bryson DeChambeau burst onto the scene after winning the US Amateur. He firmly believes in getting custom fit and is happy to debate anyone about blade irons being superior to any other iron category.

Jack loves: playing quickly, 2 ball golf, match play, heathland courses, pencil bags, foursomes, Tiger Wood’s swing 2005-2009.

Jack hates: buggies, unnecessary trees, giving shots, the 7 iron loft debate, graphite shaft lovers weird superiority complex.
