Generally speaking TaylorMade irons are split into two distinct categories, players and game improvement.

The P700 series offers four different models of players irons while the SIM range offers a game improvement and super game improvement iron.

Let’s take a look through what’s on offer and what might be best for you…

TaylorMade irons: P7TW

Designed for Tiger Woods, available for you. Tiger’s irons were hundreds of hours in the making with TaylorMade developing nine designs, taking years to create the perfect set for the 15-time major champion.

They are designed to put a premium on ball flight consistency so focus on workability over forgiveness or distance. Understandably they have become pretty popular on tour since their release.

  • TaylorMade irons: P730

Designed for the game’s best ball strikers the P730 is a true muscle-back design. These are not designed for forgiveness so unless you are a low handicap golfer these are probably not the clubs for you.

“The P730 was designed to build off of our heritage of major championship winning blade irons, especially with TPMB ’11 and TPMB ’14,” explains TaylorMade’s senior director for iron creation Tomo Bystedt.

“The overall goal was to retain the features that were iconic to the TPMB while at the time improving its performance in two subtle ways: shaping and mass properties.”

    Rory McIlroy P730

The TaylorMade P730 irons are one of the most popular on tour.

    TaylorMade irons: P760

The P760 has tour-inspired shaping with progressive design for more forgiveness and distance in the longer irons optimising gapping throughout the set.

Personally I love the P760s as the one piece forged shorter irons give me feel and workability while the longer irons give me a boost of ball speed and forgiveness when I don’t quite catch it perfectly.

“With P760, we set out to design a players iron for tour-level competition, combining all the elements that are most desirable to the better golfer,” says Brian Bazzel, VP of product creation

“The P760’s progressive set shaping enables short irons to be compact and precise while the long irons take on a hollow construction, injected with our revolutionary SpeedFoam. P760 is designed to inspire confidence whether you’re attacking pins from short range or sticking greens from long range.”

    P790

The P790 gives golfers the option of a forged iron that has incredible distance and launch conditions without giving up feel or workability.

Numerous tour stars opt to use a P790 driving iron as part of their iron setup.

    SIM Max

If you crave that forged iron feel but need some added distance the SIM Max irons could be the one for you. I gained 10 yards with these over the P760s, so if you’re after more yardage take a look at these.

These clubs aren’t just for high handicappers, the irons already have one PGA Tour victory to their name courtesy of Nick Taylor.

    SIM Max OS

The SIM Max OS irons are designed to be the most forgiving in the TaylorMade iron line-up and are really designed for high handicap golfers who struggle with consistency and want more distance.
