While many club golfers turn their nose up at game improvement gear, Pebble Beach champion Nick Taylor just won on the PGA Tour with one

Isn’t it funny that game improvement irons have a certain stigma attached to them? Admit it, you’ve all at one point considered yourself too good for game improvement irons. But tour players use them too. Nick Taylor, who won the 2020 Pebble Beach Pro-Am, has one in the bag…

What’s in Taylor’s bag?

Taylor opts to use the older TaylorMade M2 driver but pairs this with the new TaylorMade SIM fairway wood.

The big change in his set is the addition of the new TaylorMade SIM Max 4-iron. He made the swap in order to bridge a gap between his irons and his 3-wood. This meant he could remove his 5-wood and make space for a four-wedge setup at the bottom of his bag.

“It’s been great,” he told the PGA Tour. “I got the 4-iron at 19 degrees, which is close to a 5-wood but I bent it to 21 degrees so it’s more like a 3-iron, maybe a hair shorter.

“I like it, it gets me the height I want. And the spin, for me, I’ve always been a low spinner so it helps at 4-iron length to get a few more RPMs. Off the tee it’s great and off the fairway it has performed well also.”

He then carries the P770 irons down to his pitching wedge and pairs these with three lob wedges all in the TaylorMade Hi-Toe model.

He rounds out his bag with the red TaylorMade Spider putter.
