Rory isn’t the only player with a new driver in play this week. So what is the latest and greatest in the world of tour equipment?

It’s that time of year when the all the latest and greatest gear is being released ahead of the new season. So what’s new in the world of equipment this year?

New Golf Drivers 2024: Ping G430 Max 10K

Ping usually religiously sticks to a two-year cycle when it comes to new driver launches, so when we see something pop up in between, we can guess it’s going to be pretty good. So what is G430 Max 10k, and will it contend for the most forgiving driver of 2024?

The 10k name in this driver is all about the forgiveness story. It refers to something called the MOI of the driver, which has come in at over 10,000g-cm². Basically, this is a measurement of how forgiving the club head is. MOI stands for moment of inertia, and it is all about how much the club head twists when you hit the ball out of the toe or the heel.

Ping has added a heavier back weight (28 grams) and a lighter Carbonfly Wrap Crown, which allows more weight on the back and perimeter of the club to drive up that MOI and give you more forgiveness.

New Golf Drivers 2024: PXG Black Ops

PXG have been trending in the driver category over the last few years, growing in popularity with club golfers and on tour. This year is set to be their biggest yet with the launch of the brand-new Black Ops range.

The range is already in the bag of Major Champion Celine Boutier and has helped Eric Cole lock up PGA Tour Rookie of the Year. So how does it perform?

New Golf Drivers 2024: Cobra Darkspeed

For 2024, Cobra is introducing three drivers as part of their new Darkspeed Metalwoods range. The Darkspeed family uses advanced aerodynamic shaping, meaning that every driver’s head has a different weight configuration designed to suit individual players’ requirements.

The Darkspeed range is Cobra’s first product to use AI technology. The Ai-designed H.O.T Face Technology has been used to create a face that has both optimised smash factor and ball speed data. From this, the reformed Pwrshell face insert is now 13% larger than the one found in the previous generation Aerojet drivers.

New Golf Drivers 2024: TaylorMade Qi10

Rory has turned up at the DP World Tour Championship with a brand new TaylorMade Qi10 LS driver in tow, which is presumably TaylorMade’s 2024 driver offering. The LS indicates low spin, which would make sense given Rory’s preference for the lower-spinning TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus model in this year’s line-up.

We are not sure what the new tech story is yet, but a video shot by the DP World Tour shows the Carbon Twist Face is still going strong into 2024.

So if you are after a new big stick for the 2024 season, there are tonnes of options for you to take a look at. Whether you are after faster ball speed, distance or forgiveness, something new could end up in your golf bag.

Which driver do you think looks most exciting? Let me know on X (Twitter).
