Nothing gets the juices flowing among gear nerds like a Tiger Woods equipment change.

When he signed his first professional deal in 1996, Nike only made shoes and clothing so he used gear from other brands until they joined the hardware game.

So let’s take a look at some of the 15-time major champion’s iconic gear from down the years…

1. Iconic Tiger Woods equipment: Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS putter

Tiger Woods equipment

Arguably the most significant piece of equipment used by any player in the history of the game.

Woods used the Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS putter for 13 of his 14 major victories – but he always favoured a Ping grip.

He switched to a Nike Method putter and found his way back to the top of the world rankings but never won a major with it.

Woods went back to the Scotty as soon as Nike left the hardware game in 2016.

2. Iconic Tiger Woods equipment: King Cobra Deep Face driver

Tiger Woods equipment

Woods used this driver to win his first major at the 1997 Masters.

The King Cobra was an iconic driver of the early ’90s and was in the bag of long-term World No 1 Greg Norman.

Woods’ King Cobra had a True Temper Dynamic Gold X100 steel shaft.

3. Iconic Tiger Woods equipment: Mizuno MP-14 and MP-29 irons

Tiger Woods equipment

Woods was quite the trendsetter when it came to gear and he carried a combo iron set back in 1997 as he preferred the lack of offset in the MP-29 longer irons.

He used the same True Temper Dynamic Gold X100 steel shaft that was in his driver.

4. Iconic Tiger Woods equipment: Titleist 975D driver

Tiger Woods equipment

Woods switched to the 975D in ’97 and won five majors with it before putting a Nike driver in play in 2002 which he used to win the Masters and US Open that year. He returned briefly to the 975D in 2003.

5. Iconic Tiger Woods equipment: Titleist 618T irons

Tiger Woods equipment

Woods used the Titleist 618T irons – 2-PW if that floats your boat – during his most successful period from 2000 to 2001.

They were eventually replaced when Nike (finally) made a set – the Forged Blades – which suited his eye.

6. Iconic Tiger Woods equipment: Titleist Vokey 200 series wedges

Bob Vokey 200 series wedges

One of the first wedges designed by master craftsman Bob Vokey, these were also in Woods’ bag during his dominance.

Woods used a 58˚ and 60˚ model. You don’t often see a gap that small between wedges these days…

7. Iconic Tiger Woods equipment: Nike Tour Accuracy TW golf ball

Tiger Woods equipment

After years with the Titleist Professional 90, Woods got his name – well, his initials – on a golf ball. (There was also a DD model for David Duval who was a contender for Woods’ World No 1 spot at the time.)

Woods used Nike golf balls right up until 2016, when he signed a deal with Bridgestone to play their B330 model.

According to Woods, it was because Bridgestone made Nike’s golf balls for a number of years.

8. Iconic Tiger Woods equipment: Nike VR Pro irons

Woods used these from 2010 to 2014 and won five times with them in 2013. They were also in Rory McIlroy’s bag during one of his most successful spells on tour.

Woods kept these in the bag until as recently as the 2016 Hero World Challenge.

9. Iconic Tiger Woods equipment: Nike Sasquatch driver

Tiger Woods

One of the most unusual pieces of golf equipment ever released. Whether you loved it or loathed it, you were certainly talking about it.

His victory at the 2008 US Open is best remembered for being while he was on one leg. It should be remembered for being while using this monstrosity.

10. Iconic Tiger Woods equipment: TaylorMade M5 driver

Tiger Woods WITB 2019

It’s hard to refer to a driver that was released in 2019 iconic but it will be forever in the history books as the driver Woods used to finally get over the line at Augusta again for major number 15.
