David Lipsky WITB. When the American burst onto the scene with a win at the Omega European Masters no one expected their to be a four-year wait for his second victory.
And it’s also quite surprising to see American golfers plough on week-in, week-out on the European Tour in the way Lipsky has.
But it seems like the 30-year-old has made lots of friends this side of the pond and reckon he’ll be a pretty popular winner.
Another thing which surprises me a little bit it the fact he’s still a full TaylorMade staff player.
We’ve seen the brand focus more on their ‘bigger’ players and let quite a few of the ‘also rans’ go.
That made sound harsh on Lipsky but four years without even a sniff of a victory may have tested the patience of those holding the TaylorMade purse strings.
Perhaps the fact he’s flying the flag for America regularly on the European Tour might attract a bit more attention.
Or maybe he’s a fantastic talent and TaylorMade were never in doubt that another win was around the corner.
Either way, it’s quit an interesting bag of equipment too with three different iron models in play.
But let’s start with the M4 driver which has had a fantastically successful 2018.
Dustin Johnson, Francesco Molinari and Jon Rahm have all tasted victory with the M4 so Lipsky is in decent company there.
He stick with M4 for his 3-wood before opting for the P790 3-iron.
Like Rory McIlroy he has the P750 for a bit of added forgiveness in the 4-iron then moves into the sleek, bladed P730.
His wedges are a mixture of the Milled Grind and Hi-Toe and he chooses the Spider Tour Red putter.
Lipsky plays the TP5 golf ball.
