Shane Lowry is a man for the big occasion, with a major championship to his name alongside WGC victories and Rolex Series wins.

The Irishman was not even a professional golfer when he won his first tour title. He won on home soil at the 3 Irish Open as an amateur in 2009, beating Robert Rock in a sudden death play-off to the joy of the home crowd. He would go on to win on home soil again a decade later, this time at the Open Championship. Lowry lifted the Claret Jug, his only major title to date.

Of his six titles, four have been elevated tournaments. In 2015, Lowry won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, taking his first PGA Tour victory in style. He has since also won two Rolex Series events – the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the BMW PGA Championship – the latter being the DP World Tour’s flagship event.

Lowry made his Ryder Cup debut in 2021, as Team Europe were hammered by Team USA at Whistling Straits. The Irishman showed his passion and how much it meant, as encapsulated in his celebration after he and Tyrrell Hatton won one of just nine points that the Europeans could muster. He returned at the 2023 Ryder Cup, playing as a captain’s pick once again.

Did you Know?

Amateur Winner At National Open

Shane Lowry did the unthinkable at the 2009 Irish Open. As an amateur, he found his way into a play-off, eventually defeating England’s Robert Rock on the third play-off hole to lift the title. He became just the third amateur to win on the DP World Tour, in what was his very first event on the tour.

Major Winner On Home Soil

A decade on from that historic win, Lowry did it again and this time, it was on the biggest of stages. The Open Championship returned to Royal Portrush in 2019, and the Irishman was four shots clear after the third round. He ran away with the tournament on the final day to lift the Claret Jug, becoming the first man from the Republic of Ireland to do so since Padraig Harrington in 2008.

Record-Equalling 62

At the 2024 PGA Championship, the Irishman carded a 9-under-par 62 in the third round at Valhalla, tying the record for the low round in a men’s major championship.

2020 Olympian

Lowry is a proud Irishman, and he had the opportunity to represent his country at the 2020 Olympic Games. The Games were postponed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the competition then played behind closed doors. Lowry finished T22, eight shots off eventual winner Xander Schauffele.
