‘You p****!’: Shane Lowry and Joe LaCava’s Ryder Cup row revealed on Netflix

Shane Lowry was shown on on season two of Full Swing firing an expletive insult at Team USA caddie Joe LaCava at the 2023 Ryder Cup during the row that made headlines in a tense week in Rome…

Shane Lowry shouted a sweary insult at caddie Joe LaCava before the infamous row on day two of the 2023 Ryder Cup as filmed by the Full Swing cameras of Netflix.

The final episode of the eight-part series showed Lowry’s expletive cry at Patrick Cantlay’s caddie LaCava and the argument that followed next to the green and in the car park in Rome.

The popular golf docu-series, which first aired in 2023, showed the pivotal point in the afternoon fourballs when Cantlay salvaged a point for Team USA when playing alongside Wyndham Clark against Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick.

After Cantlay rolled in a crucial birdie putt, McIlroy was left with one of his own to halve the hole and the match, but LaCava appeared to stand next to the Northern Irishman as he lined up his next shot at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club.

“Hey Joe, get out of the way, you p****. Hey Joe, Get off, get off!” Lowry shouted from the side of the green as he watched on.

After McIlroy and Fitzpatrick missed their putts to rescue a half point, McIlroy and LaCava confronted each other about the situation, before Lowry entered the scene.

“Joe, you were on top of him when he was putting. You were on top of him. You were right in line with him,” Lowry added. LaCava maintained that he “wasn’t in his line.”

“We were in Whistling Straits as well, OK? You get it when you’re here. We get it when we’re there. It’s all fun and games,” Lowry added, now with Justin Thomas’ caddie Jim ‘Bones’ McKay’ present too.

“I just wanted to celebrate,” LaCava said while defending himself. At this point, the tension had somewhat diffused and Team Europe member Justin Rose appeared saying, “It was a nice touch. It was quite funny, but then you just went a touch too long

“That’s bu*****t.” He was on top of Rory,” Lowry was heard saying later.

Cantlay’s heroics on the final hole meant the US team, led by captain Zach Johnson, trailed by 10.5 – 5.5 to Europe. America’s glimmer of hope was dashed on the final day as Europe won back the trophy they lost in 2021 at Whistling Straits.

Cantlay had been the subject of derision from European fans throughout the afternoon on Ryder Cup Saturday after Jamie Weir of Sky Sports reported the American was refusing to wear a hat in protest at not being paid to play at the event which dates back to 1927.

Fans waved their hats at the former FedEx Cup champion during the fourth session, and this was a gesture Cantlay’s teammates replicated when he performed his heroics on the final green.

The episode also shows the verbal altercation McIlroy had with McKay in the car park at the venue in Italy before being ushered into a car by Lowry.
