Celine Boutier has been a golfing star for several years now, but secured her maiden major championship victory in 2023 in an incredible year for the Frenchwoman.

Boutier was born in France to Thai parents, and studied at Duke University from 2012 to 2016. During that time, she won four events for Duke and helped the team to an NCAA Championship in 2014. That same year, she was the Women’s Golf Coaches Association Player of the Year and won the Honda Sports Award. On Christmas Eve, Boutier became the No.1 on the World Amateur Golf Rankings, becoming the first Frenchwoman to sit atop the rankings. She also won the European Ladies Amateur Championship and the British Ladies Amateur in her amateur career.

Her first victories as a professional came on the Symetra Tour, the developmental tour for the LPGA Tour. She won the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Classic and Sioux Falls GreatLIFE Challenge on route to finishing in the graduation places to reach the LPGA Tour. Boutier then won on the Ladies European Tour a year later, claiming the Australian Ladies Classic.

Her first LPGA Tour victory also came on Australian soil, at the ISPS Handa Vic Open. Her win was the first by a Frenchwoman for 16 years on the LPGA Tour, dating back to Patricia Meunier-Lebouc’s last win back in 2003. She had to wait until 2023 for her maiden major victory, though. Boutier won on home soil at the Amundi Evian Championship, and she followed it with a win seven days later at the co-sanctioned FreeD Group Women’s Scottish Open. The Frenchwoman won four times across both tours in the calendar year.

Boutier is a three-time member of the European Solheim Cup team, having featured for the first time in the European win on home soil in 2019. She took four points from her four matches, a 100% record despite being a rookie. The Frenchwoman then helped the away side to victory two years later on American soil before being a key member of the team that retained the trophy at Finca Cortesin in 2023.
