The fourth women’s major of the year is the Amundi Evian Championship, which is the only major championship played in continental Europe.

132 players return to the French golf course this year, with the victor of the 2024 tournament Ayaka Furue, amongst the masses. Maja Stark, ranked 9th in the Rolex Women’s Golf Rankings, won her first major championship title at the US Women’s Open this year. Another first-time major winner in Mao Saigo also appears after her victory at the Chevron Championship in April. Players from both the Ladies European Tour and the LPGA Tour will be in action in France, aiming to get their hands on the trophy.

There have been no multiple winners of the Amundi Evian Championship in its eleven-year history as a major. Will we see that trend continue this week?

This is the only one out of the five women’s majors that stays at the same venue each year, a la the Masters Tournament and Augusta National, and has done since its inception in 1994. The tournament is named after its venue – the Evian Resort in France. The event will be held on the Champions Course of the resort, which is in Evian-les-Bains, on the shores of Lac Leman.

The Evian Resort is on the eastern side of France, with its nearest major city actually being the Swiss city of Geneva.

What is the history of the event?

The Amundi Evian Championship is, without doubt, the youngest of the five women’s major championships.

Although the tournament began in 1994 at the Evian Masters, major status was only achieved almost two decades later, with the 2013 edition being the first to be classed as one of the five women’s major championships.

Since then, there have been no repeat winners, and players from eight different nations have been successful. Ayaka Furue is the defending champion, with the likes Celine Boutier, Brooke Henderson, Minjee Lee, Jin Young Ko, Lydia Ko and In-Gee Chun all being victorious in the last decade.

Check out the detailed history of the tournament here, as we look ahead to the 2025 edition.

How do golfers qualify for the Amundi Evian Championship?

There are a number of ways that players can get into the field at the Evian Resort for the 2025 Amundi Evian Championship.

These are as follows:

  • Top 50 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings
  • Past champions of the Amundi Evian Championship
  • Top 10 and ties from last year’s Amundi Evian Championship
  • Winners of the Chevron Championship, US Women’s Open, Women’s PGA Championship, and AIG Women’s Open in the past five years
  • Winners of LPGA events in the last two years
  • Winner of the Jabra Ladies Open on the LET
  • Top 15 on the LET Order of Merit
  • Top players on the LPGA’s Race to CME Globe (unless already exempt)
  • Sponsors exemptions & tournament invites

For a more in-depth look at how players can qualify for the tournament, take a look at our piece here.

You can see the full field for the 2025 Amundi Evian Championship here.

What are the tee times for the 2025 Amundi Evian Championship?

The tee times for the 2025 edition of the tournament will be announced in the run-up to the event beginning.

When they have been announced, we will have them here.

Is there a cut at the Amundi Evian Championship?

As with all of the major championships, there will be a cut at the end of Friday’s play.

The tournament has a smaller field compared to some of the other women’s majors – 132 players will take to the course come Thursday.

However, only 70 and ties will play the weekend at the Evian Resort, meaning more than half the field will go home after just two rounds.

Could there be a playoff to decide the winner?

If there are two or more players tied at the top after four rounds, then the tournament will be decided on a playoff.

Unlike some of the other major tournaments in both the men’s and women’s game, the Amundi Evian Championship playoff format is one of sudden death.

At the Evian Resort for the 2025 edition of the competition, the 18th hole of the Champions Course will be utilised until there is a winner.

The last playoff at the Amundi Championship took place in 2021. Minjee Lee made birdie down 18 to defeat Jeong-eun Lee to secure her maiden major title.

How can I watch the action?

The event will be broadcast around the world by various broadcast partners. In the United Kingdom, action from all four days of the tournament will be shown live on Sky Sports.

  • Thursday 10th – Round 1 – Sky Sports + from 11 am
  • Friday 11th – Round 2 – Sky Sports + from 11 am
  • Saturday 12th – Round 3 – Sky Sports + from 9.30 am
  • Sunday 13th – Round 4 – Sky Sports + from 9.30 am

How much will the winner take home from Evian-les-Bains this week?

The prize money breakdown for the 2025 edition of the tournament has not been announced yet. But it seems the purse might be $8 million, like in 2024.

Last year’s winner, Ayaka Furue, took home $1.2 million from the total prize purse of $8 million, the biggest in the tournament’s history.

When the prize purse is officially announced, we will bring you a full breakdown of it here.

Who do you think will win the Amundi Evian Championship and lift that glorious trophy? Who do you think will take the title? Let us know with a post on X, formerly Twitter!

Mention a European country, and Matt will tell you which resorts make the National Club Golfer Top 100s: European Resorts list. He might even throw in who designed the golf course and how many rooms the hotel has got at each one…

Matt got into the game of golf from a young age, following his old man to the local golf club. He fell for the sport, and now can’t seem to go a day without thinking about how to improve his game (Thanks Dad!). Matt has been a member of Howley Hall GC in Leeds since 2020, and is just about managing to maintain a single-figure handicap. He likes to remind people that he once broke 75, but won’t tell people that it was on a shortened course during the winter.

He moved to Leeds after graduating from the University of Central Lancashire with a First Class Honours degree in Sports Journalism. Matt joined NCG after almost five years travelling the world with the Professional Squash Association, working on events in all four corners of the globe.

Matt currently plays a Cobra King LTDx driver and RadSpeed 3-wood. TaylorMade monopolise the rest of his bag, with a SIM UDI, M5 irons and both Milled Grind and HI-TOE wedges, along with a Monza Redline putter. He uses a Vice Pro Plus golf ball, because he’s a bit different…

Away from golf, Matt is a Manchester United fan, and a keen runner, having ran the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon (his first and possibly last), in May 2023.
