LIV star exposes latest ploy to solve world ranking crisis
There’s fresh drama on the LIV Golf vs OWGR front, and this time you won’t believe what Greg Norman has in store to solve his quest for LIV world ranking points.
According to recent winner Eugenio Chacarra, the league now intends to implement a cut line at their next event in Jeddah to eliminate one element of the OWGR criteria they’re lacking.
This comes amid LIV’s ongoing ploy to earn points through merging with the MENA Tour, which is still currently under review.
“LIV joined the MENA Tour and fulfilled all the requirements that the world rankings needed to give us points.” Chacarra told Spanish journalist Hugo Costa. “Except there was no cut, so LIV have decided to make a cut on the second day.
“Having dinner yesterday with Greg, he told us he’ll be in a meeting on Tuesday so that this tournament (LIV Jeddah) will count towards world ranking [points].”
But as always, it’s not all plain sailing.
Unlike the conventional cuts we’re used to seeing on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, LIV will apparently only have three players dropped after 36-holes from their 48-man field. That’s right, just 6.25% of the roster.
And if that wasn’t enough, Chacarra also exposed that the three players eliminated from the individual event after two days will still be allowed to compete in the team event.
The 22-year-old continued: “Hopefully everything goes well and we have points and we can continue to create a great tour and a great story.”
While no decision has officially been made, the ploy would certainly mark another audacious attempt by Norman to force the OWGR’s hand into making a decision.
