First Impressions

I have reviewed many out and out cart bags and it is something of a double-edged sword.

As the size and weight is less relevant than a carry bag, most will provide ample storage. They will therefore function pretty well for most people in most circumstances. The Wilson Alpine is no exception and has some additional features which make it a serious contender when deciding on this type of bag.

NCG Verdict

My initial impression was of a really good looking bag. I tested the red and black version but they have multiple colour variations available.

The Wilson UK website does not have them on it, so for official spec I used the US website. There are multiple UK retailers selling them, however.

The size and appearance are fairly standard for a cart bag. The top is 11 x 9.5 inches with 14 full length dividers with a dedicated putter divider. I found the clubs went in and out particularly well with this bag which is a good start. The base has a squarish cut out allowing it to sit well in my Motocaddy trolley.

Combined with the well thought out strap pass-through system at the top, it was absolutely rock solid on the trolley. The pass-through system allows the strap to pass completely under the top of the bag although on my trolley it worked a bit better when just through the front portion. It gave it a nice clean look as well.

Moving on to storage, the number, layout and features of the 11 pockets impressed me.

On either side there are 2 large apparel pockets and a soft-lined valuables pocket with a waterproof zip. I really like having 2 valuable pockets. It stops your keys scratching your phone and lets you have one pocket where you can put important stuff in and not open it until the end of the round, minimising the risk of something inadvertently falling out on the course.

The other 5 are on the front of the bag. At the top is another soft-lined pocket which is a decent size and has a magnetic seal. This works perfectly for your laser range-finder. It is easily accessible, secure and the magnetic opening works extremely well. The whole thing seals perfectly all the way round. On the front of this is an external mesh pocket.

At the bottom on the front are 2 general storage pockets, one for balls and one for other kit. There is also a cool pocket which is insulated with drainage holes. If you were playing in significant heat this would be a real benefit. The front panel on the lower pocket is completely removable to allow for personalisation. There is a single padded shoulder strap on the underside as is common for this model of bag.

The other features include an umbrella holder, glove patch, rain hood, metal towel holder and webbing accessory loop.

Wilson Alpine Cart Bag Review: Final Thoughts

These days, whatever cart bag you buy will do a pretty good job. In my opinion the Wilson Alpine cart bag is right up there in terms of features. In particular the magnetic pocket and pass-through strap features are really useful enhancements.
