After the weather we’ve had over what has seemed the longest winter ever, a waterproof golf bag seems to be a must for British golfing at this point. Trying to keep our clubs dry has become a bit of a tiresome task, but that task may have just got easier with Sun Mountain’s H2NO cart bag.
The bag is named after the protection it provides against the elements, which suggests it could be the perfect winter cart bag. I went out to Germany to see how well the bag performed on course.

For a fairly large-sized cart bag, it feels surprisingly light, weighing in at 2.6kg. If you had to carry it instead of using a trolley, say if your trolley broke, then it may just about be manageable, but it does only have one strap which would make it harder.
Some people might view the all-black colour scheme as boring, I’m not one. I think it looks professional and tidy. With how muddy courses can get in the North of England during the wetter months an all-black bag is a sensible move. For those who want a bit more colour to their bag, there are two other colour schemes available.
Practically, the bag stands up very well. It has all the storage you’d need and more. I found it easy to fit onto a trolley and for those who may struggle to lift their golf bags when they are full there are integrated lift assist handles to help.

I travelled with my bag over to Germany to test it out. Therefore, I had a fair bit to pack in the bag, so I had enough for two rounds of golf. When using a cart bag, I always tend to pack more stuff than I need, with the luxury of not worrying about carrying the weight. So, the nine individual pockets came in extremely helpful for me and I had no worries in taking everything I needed.

The pockets themselves are particularly spacious, and I was able to fit in all the essentials, including waterproofs, with plenty of spare room left. The pocket for valuables is lined with a soft fabric to stop phones, for example, from getting marked. Each pocket is also waterproof and uses water-resistant zips with sealed seams for added security from the weather. For practical reasons, the pockets are forward-facing which means they’re easier to access.
In terms of the effectiveness of the waterproofing, I found it to stand up well against the odd sudden downpours we had in Germany. The clubs and the accessories in the bag were perfectly dry. When rain does fall, as expected there is a waterproof hood provided that clips on the traditional way. I didn’t fully test it in wet conditions. The rainfall wasn’t particularly heavy and only lasted a couple of minutes.
Sun Mountain always seem to put care and thought into their designs, which shows in the H2NO. The waterproof protection is a real comfort when out on the course.
The Sun Mountain H2NO staff cart bag uses the now more common 14-way dividers. The dividers were high quality, with the ones on the outside slightly bigger than the middle ones. Dividers are designed so that the woods are loaded in the middle of the bag and the irons down the sides. There is also a putter holder at the top of the bag to stop it from hitting any of your other clubs.
Whilst being pushed on the golf trolley, the H2NO bag felt stable and didn’t move around at all. It was the same when walking up a climb or on some uneven surface, it was impressive how secure the bag was in the trolley. Sun Mountain say that the bag does fit other trolleys, not just their own.

More basic features are included like a hoop for your towel, umbrella holder, and dual pen holders. The Sun Mountain H2NO staff cart bag does stack up well in terms of features.
Final Thoughts
I enjoyed using the bag. Its waterproofing was extremely effective during sudden downpours, nothing in the bag got wet – all was protected. There was more than enough storage for someone who was travelling abroad and having to pack for a couple of rounds. So, on a round-to-round basis, I can’t see there being any issues with a lack of room.
Overall, I think this Sun Mountain H2NO bag should definitely be considered for a cart bag, especially with how wet our winter months get.
