Waste Management Phoenix Open betting tips: Top tips
All it takes is one decent week of form and the price on Hideki Matsuyama takes a nosedive. His tied third last week was his best performance since winning the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational some 17 months ago.
As a result, he is 12/1 for a tournament that he has won twice before.
It’s probably as short as I’d want but those encouraged by these glimpses of great golf may be tempted given his affinity for TPC Scottsdale.
It feels a bit of a cop out advising the favourite but Jon Rahm is in the mix every time he plays at the moment and 7/1 is fair on the Spaniard.
You might be slightly concerned that he couldn’t get anything going last Sunday at Torrey Pines as an even par round left him tied for 5th.
But set against overall PGA Tour form this year of T22, 1, T8, 6, T5 and a TPC Scottsdale record that reads 11, 16 and 5 in three appearances, it’s hard to find a reason not to think he wouldn’t be in the mix.
You don’t win for years and then two come along at once for Matt Kuchar. Yet he’s still underestimated by the oddsmakers who have him at 28/1 for a tournament in which he was 5th 12 months ago.
A ninth placed finisher in 2017, if you look back to 2009 you’ll find another top 10 there as well.
Kuchar’s a money machine at the best of times. Now he’s guy that’s winning tournaments as well. Why wouldn’t he have another strong week?
