After a going close in Abu Dhabi, our tipster is hoping to go one better as the DP World Tour moves to Dubai

The DP World Tour returned to our screens with a bang last week, and what an edition the Yas Links course seems to be. Thomas Pieters may have slightly spoiled our party, with long-shot tip Rafa Cabrera-Bello having to settle for second, but there were plenty of positives and lots to learn ahead of the Dubai Desert Classic and its new sponsor. With course and desert form crucial, as well as an ability to consistently hit greens-in-regulation, I have picked out three great value tips that tick all the boxes. But before we get to my free golf betting tips… Dubai Desert Classic details

Venue: Emirates Golf Club, Dubai, UAE

Date: January 27-30, 2022

Course stats: Par 72; 7,353 yards

Course summary: Another exposed desert course with tree-lined Bermuda fairways and quick Bermuda greens. Players will need to negotiate with the wind, with numerous dogleg holes and water in play on 10 of the 18 holes. The rough here is often perilous, so finding the fairways and greens will be an important factor for success.

Purse: $8 million

Bazza’s Banker: Shane Lowry – 2.5pt e/w @ 25/1 with Bet365

Lowry had a fantastic tournament last week in Abu Dhabi, showcasing his skill despite a disappointing final round to finish T12. After listening to him speak about his performance, and looking closely at his stats, I think he has a great chance to get another DP World Tour win this week.

Greens-in-reg figures are a very strong indicator for success here, and Lowry ranked 3rd in that measure in 2021, as well as 10th in 2020, so certainly has the form to contend on this layout.

Lowry also ranked 1st for greens-in-regulation in the 2021 season, hitting 75% on average, and has plenty of course form at this course.

The Irishman has two top-12 finishes in his last three attempts here, and with his form suggesting he is playing to his potential – I can see him having another good week.

The Each-Way Play: Ian Poulter – 1.5pt e/w @ 40/1 with Bet365

Poulter appears to be having a mini-revival in form, and as a big fan of the Postman I am all for seeing him secure a 13th DP World Tour title and a first since 2012.

In Poulter’s last two events, both of which have been in the middle east, he has managed to secure consecutive T6 finishes and appears to be full of confidence.

Two top-10 finishes in his last four starts here, as well as a T16 finish in 2020, also increase his value against this price.

Looking at last week’s stats it shows that Poulter is capable of transferring his performance over to this course, ranking 11th for SG: Tee-to-green and again dazzling with the majestic short game we know he possesses.

Anyone for a Sunday chest-beating, fist-pumping, Poulter victory roar?

The Long Shot: Takumi Kanaya – 1pt e/w @ 75/1 with Bet365

Anyone who watched the coverage of last week’s event will have noticed the high quality opening round performance from young Kanaya – so I think the bookies have missed a trick by putting him up at this price.

Kanaya eventually finished in 25th last week, and was 9th in this event last year. That course form could be invaluable for Kanaya, and returning to this venue after a positive performance last week could be the spark he needs to challenge for this one.

In Abu Dhabi last week, Kanaya ranked 6th for Driving Accuracy, 16th for SG: Tee-to-green and 19th for SG: Around-the-tee. His putter will need to be hot to give him any chance of winning, but at a big price he certainly has an each-way shout if he can produce another similar performance.
