National Club Golfer has partnered with The Village at Machrihanish Dunes to offer one lucky reader and three guests the chance to experience Scotland’s next great golf destination during an unforgettable two-night break to Kintyre.

Machrihanish Dunes

Staying for two nights in twin rooms at The Royal Hotel, a storied luxury hotel five miles from Machrihanish overlooking the harbour in the heart of Campbeltown, the winner and guests will be able to enjoy golf at two of the UK’s most natural golf courses, set in one of the country’s most picturesque regions.

Machrihanish Dunes – designed by the excellent David McLay-Kidd (see also: Bandon Dunes) – has been hailed for its rugged, natural feel and authentic old-world charm, despite actually being one of the youngest courses in Scotland.

Just a couple of miles down the coast, Machrihanish Golf Club is an historic Old Tom Morris links, set in natural dunes with exceptional vistas over Machrihanish Bay. The first hole is often ranked among the best openers in the world.

As well as one round of golf at Machrihanish Dunes and Machrihanish Golf Club, transfers to golf will be included and the winner will also be treated to breakfast throughout, a welcome drink upon arrival and will have the option to add golf at either Machrihanish Dunes or Dunaverty Golf Club for a discounted rate of £80 per person.

The trip can be redeemed on any dates from November 1st 2025 through till April 1st 2026.

The Prize

  • One lucky winner will win a two-night trip for four to Machrihanish and Scotland’s Kintyre peninsula, with golf at both Machrihanish Dunes and Machrihanish Golf Club.

The Village at Machrihanish Dunes

The Village at Machrihanish Dunes isn’t an unearthed gem. The resort has grown into one of the Scotland’s finest since opening in 2009.

A world-class seaside resort, the destination features Machrihanish Dunes (a UK top-100 links golf course), four-star accommodation, casual and fine dining options, a boutique spa and a host of other resort amenities, all situated in one of Scotland’s most beautiful regions.

The Ugadale Hotel & Cottages in Machrihanish offer 22 rooms and suites plus eight luxurious two-bedroom cottages. The Royal Hotel, with 23 rooms all overlooking Campbeltown Harbour, is located in downtown Campbeltown, a mere five miles away.

Machrihanish Dunes was the first 18-hole course in the UK to earn certification from the Golf Environmental Organisation. It is consistently ranked as one of the most ecologically friendly courses in the world. Designed by David McLay-Kidd, it opened in 2009 on a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), the first course ever to be built on such a site and also the first to be built on the west coast of Scotland in over 100 years.

Now, it seems certain to reach its 20th anniversary even higher up the rankings. In 2024, owners Southworth announced plans to invest heavily in one of its most prized locations, elevating it further into an essential stay-and-play experience.

For more information on Machrihanish Dunes, visit their website here.

About the author

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
