How does the new Ping G410 LST compared to the G400 Max driver. We put them head to head

Our Ping G410 LST driver review took place at Leeds Golf Centre. Our sample was fitted to three-handicapper Dan Murphy’s previous Ping driver spec. His current gamer is the Ping G400 Max. Watch the video to see Dan’s thoughts, or click to the next page if you’d prefer to read all about it…

Ping G410 LST driver review: Dan’s First Impressions

Overall, I would say it’s a much prettier head than my current G400 Max driver. The head is slightly more compact, with new colouring, and it certainly looks like more of a player’s driver.

Ping G410 LST driver review: The technology

The Ping G410 LST driver is a high-MOI driver engineered to produce low and stable spin.

The centre of gravity is slightly forward compared to the G410 Plus. This leads to spin reductions of approximately 200 to 400 rpm. At 450cc, the G410 LST driver features a more rounded, pear-shaped design, combined with more efficient Turbulator Technology for advanced aerodynamics, for increased clubhead speed.

The Tour Square face sits slightly open and the score-line pattern frames the impact area to aid alignment.

Ping G410 LST driver review

The G410 LST shares the movable-weight technology introduced in the G410 Plus model. Each weight position shifts the centre of gravity location by 1/10″ in each direction from neutral, influencing left or right shot direction by approximately 10 yards.

Patented Dragonfly Technology on the inside creates an ultra-thin crown structure, saving weight, which is moved to the extreme boundary of the clubhead to increase the MOI by 3% (compared to the G400 LST) for added ball speed and forgiveness.

The unique forging and patented heat-treatment process of the T9S+ face powers a thinner, hotter impact area that is precision-machined to elevate ball speed across the entire face for more flexing and faster ball speeds. The forged face and the internal geometry of the head are instrumental in producing the powerful feel and sound at impact.

The patented lightweight and aerodynamic adjustable hosel expands from five to eight settings, offering loft and lie adjustments to optimise ball flight.

Loft and lie angle options add another layer of opportunity for club fitters to really fine-tune a driver for each player.

There are four high-performance shaft options available at no upcharge and ensure a shaft-fitting solution to match the launch conditions of all golfers.

That’s enough about the technology – how did this perform? Find out on the next page…

Ping G410 LST driver review: Dan’s Verdict

This looks, feels and flies like a driver aimed at better players. What do I mean by that? Well, it sits slightly open, it’s a little less screechy off the face (but by no means dull) and the flight appears to be a touch flatter. It’s a high-quality driver – there’s no doubt about that.

If you are somebody who struggles into the wind, or whose drives start low and then climb on you, then this has got to be worth a look. A Ping G410 LST driver review has to start by looking at this spin-reducing element.

My personal view is that the G410 LST sits better than the G400 LST.

I struggled with the way the sole was designed on the latter and it felt to me that it either fell open or closed when I placed it behind the ball. The G410 LST doesn’t do that.

Compared to my current gamer, the G400 Max, the head is a little more compact, which makes it seem deeper.

There is also a change of shaft to factor in, from my current Project X Hzardus to the new Project X Evenflow Black 75. In theory, this is a very similar shaft – and the weight is identical – but it’s still another variable and I know from experience how easy it is to attribute performance characteristics to the head that are actually more shaft-related.

I’m also very used to looking at the Hzardus and it’s in my fairway woods as well. So I need to to get past that familiarity.

I’ll only really know if the G410 LST is the one for me after an extended period of testing but the early signs are highly promising and I’m looking forward to having it in the bag over the summer months so we can get to know each other better.
