Takomo might not have been around for long but 2026 has seen them introduce three new iron sets aimed at three different category of golfers.
The Takomo 201T MKII irons are for the golfer who has managed to get their handicap down and would describe themselves as a competent golfer – perhaps heading towards single figures.
Rather than looking for more distance these irons are for a golfer who values consistency and knowing how the ball will launch and land. They are also aimed at a golfer who is capable of shot shaping and likes to manipulate the ball but might not be keen to game an out and out blade.
In this review we put the Takomo 201T MKII Irons to the test to see if they deliver on what they are designed to do.

The Takomo 201T MKII Irons are a cross between a traditional players’ cavity-back and a players’ distance iron. Aimed at low to mid handicap golfers, who need a bit of forgiveness in a compact package.
Whilst visually over the ball I loved the profile of these irons, they weren’t the longest out of the 2026 trio. However, they were easy to use and whilst i’m not a master at shot shaping they did deliver on being easily workable.
Overall, a great set of irons for any player looking to bridge the gap between a blade and a distance iron.

First Impressions
Takomo has released three new sets of irons for 2026. The 101 MKII and 201 MKII look very similar in terms of sole width but with the 201T MKII you can definitely see a size difference – the most blade looking of the three.
NCG Verdict
The Takomo 201T MKII are the first of it’s kind, a hollow-body iron in the form of a players’ iron. It’s designed to give out good distance with a strong amount of workability, great for players who love to shape the ball.
Much like the other model’s Takomo has released in 2026 the 201T MKII features a newly engineered variable-thickness face. Made from 17-4 steel, it allows for more forgiveness on off centre strikes.
Each irons centre of gravity has been optimised with steel and tungsten weightings. In the 4-7 iron this aims to deliver increased ease launch and forgiveness. Whilst in the 8i‑PW they use steel to deliver control.
I tested these irons on the course as well as at an indoor studio using a Skytrak launch monitor and my standard golf ball a Titleist Prov1x. These clubs are also 25 grams heavier than what I usually use and so swing speed/carry distance is a little down.

Starting with PW, the numbers were very consistent. Carry was up there with the other models but spin was fractionally less but still not enough to affect performance.
In terms of loft, the 201T MKII 7 iron sits at 33°, whereas the 101 MKII (game improvement set) sit at 29°. Takomo don’t claim that these are the longest out of the set’s, with the 101 MKII focusing on workability. The data with 7 iron continued to be very consistent and unlike the PW data, produced the highest spin of the three models by a few hundred RPM.
The 5 iron profile was much smaller as expected than the other models and did look a little more daunting. The carry distance was the lowest of all three models but spin rates remained roughly the same. As a whole it was very nice to look at but didn’t suit me as someone who needs a little more help/forgiveness with longer irons. But, if you’re a strong ball striker who wants a blade in the longer irons this is perfect.
Final Thoughts
Overall, these are a great set of irons for those players who aren’t brave enough to take on a blade but want to look at a smaller profile iron.
They look great over the ball and come in at just under £600 which is pretty unreal for a set of irons that look this good!
