Cobra LTDx fairway woods review: First Impressions
Cobra have done a great job designing a head that catches your eye, without it being loud and in your face. I love how the matte head seems to roll seamlessly into the face, giving you the feeling the head is really shallow and hittable from all lies. I also appreciate how square the face sits behind the ball, not toeing in closed like some other fairway woods on the market do.

I love Cobra’s LTDx Max driver, so to say I had high hopes for this fairway wood is a slight understatement. After warming up with some wedges and iron shots I hit some shots on the range with it and then took it straight out onto the course, for a thorough testing.
Straight away I was blown away by the LTDx fairway. The feedback you get through your hands is really good, and on centre strikes the ball really rockets off the face. Cobra have a new H.O.T face which features multiple zones of variable thickness metal across the face, which means ball speeds stay high on all strike locations.
The first shot I hit was an absolute bomb. It carried over 260 yards which is ridiculous for me and is close to the numbers I’d expect from a driver. Well done Cobra.
Hitting shots like that makes you want to hit more and more to try to beat your best which isn’t a feeling I’ve got from a club for a long time. Sadly I was soon brought back to reality with a variety of average strikes producing shots closer to what I’d expect from a fairway metal, but still better than what I see with my current gamer.

I am happy with the data I got from the Flightscope, but the front-to-back dispersion is quite big. The centred strikes seemed to go for absolute miles, which is what I’d want from a backup tee shot club, but the 40-yard difference in carry between best and worse is a problem when hitting into greens as you can’t play for one shot and then hit something that lands 40 yards off what you wanted.
The big difference between the two shots is the spin. The centred hits have low spin and high launch which is perfect for maximum distance, but the non-perfect strikes the spin jumped up a fair amount which robs you of crucial yards.
Something else I really like about the LTDx fairway is how adjustable the head is. You can move the loft 2 degrees both up and down, and also add some draw bias if you need it. This makes the club a custom fitter’s dream as it can be set up really specifically for each player, which is absolutely what golfers should be looking for.
I took the Cobra LTDx fairway wood out on the course for a few rounds and loved the results it gave me from the tee. I was more accurate with it than my driver and was only 10-15 yards shorter which didn’t feel like too much. I hit it at a couple of par 5s with average success but some of that could certainly be put down to user error.
My only real concern with the LTDx fairway wood is how quickly the face and sole seemed to scratch. Granted I may have hit a lot of balls with it but the face already shows a decent sign of wear and I would want a premium club to stay looking premium for as long as possible.
That aside, this is a brilliant fairway wood that you absolutely need to try. It feels great, looks superb and you won’t be disappointed with the performance. It’s gone straight into my bag!
