First Impressions

This product is giving me aerospace or racing car vibes. Everything from the colour scheme to the shaping is screaming fast. You can see the sole is significantly more curved than we saw with the previous Cobra LTDx model this was to make the head more aerodynamic and help drive up club head speeds.

The crown is much simpler than the sole and I think this sits great behind the golf ball. I love the classic gloss finish but with the Cobra touches of colour swirls at the back of the head and a solid black alignment visual at the front.

This sits in the middle of the Aerojet range so the profile is slightly smaller than that of the Aerojet Max but slightly bigger than the Aerojet LS. I actually think this has a great shaping, it is compact enough to suit a better player but not small enough to be intimidating to all golfers.

NCG Review

I tested the Cobra Aerojet driver with a Mitsubishi Chemical Kai’li White 60 shaft in a 10.5° club head. Typically I would opt for a 9° head, but I didn’t manage to get my hands on one. To remedy this, I chose to loft the club head down using the adjustable hosel.

There are a few downsides to this. One it opens the club face slightly. Two the loft is still more than a 9° model, and as a result, I saw more launch and spin than was probably optimal. Having said that, I would aim for about 2300 rpm of spin with my driver so I think a 9° model would hit that spot pretty perfectly.

Straight away, it was clear just how easy this club is to launch. It also felt super easy to hit and I could very easily get the ball a long way down the fairway despite where the ball was struck on the club face. If you are someone who struggles to launch the ball, this could be a perfect option.

My average carry distance was 231.6 yards, even with the launch and spin being slightly too high. I think this is pretty efficient from 94/95mph of club head speed. I am very excited about the distance I could get from a fully custom-fit model.

One of the most impressive things here was just how consistent the front-to-back dispersion was here. This was great out on the golf course as it meant I could consistently carry hazards such as bunkers and leave my ball in a great position.

The left-to-right dispersion was obviously bigger but there is only just over 40 yards from my furthest left and right shot which isn’t bad at all.

This definitely has a pretty neutral ball flight and I think if I hadn’t lofted the face down I would have seen a little bit of draw bias more consistently.

One thing I don’t like about Cobra products is the grip size. They are supposedly regular-size grips but feel a lot bigger, which I personally felt affected my dispersion as it was hard to get good club face control. This a regular minor point as it is easy to change the grip but it could affect your performance in a fitting so I felt it was worth noting.

Overall this is a great performing driver and when you take into account the price point it is a club that is hard to overlook.

Testing Protocol

To test this product we travelled to West Cliffs a leading European golf course just North of Lisbon. The idea was to get some warmer weather and escape our frozen British courses. It of course rained, a lot, was very windy. Each of our test team were allocated a category of golf clubs, fairways, or a specific type of driver or iron.

We gathered data on a Trackman 4 or FlightScope. We used Titleist Pro V1 for all tests. The samples we have are either fully fitted for our testers or ordered in our assumed specs. We are then able to optimise performance by swapping shafts and playing with the adjustability. As well as that dry testing all of the product was tested on course in a comparative environment with other product from the same category. We recognise that no testing process is perfect and just aim to be fair in our treatment, transparent in our process and candid in our feedback.
