Minimal are on of the leading golf brands in sustainability. Their golf products are made for ‘The Player and The Planet’ in an environmentally friendly manner. They have now released a new bag that continues their environmental work, but also delivers a stylish look.

It’s good looking and environmentally friendly, but what was it like as a golf bag out on the golf course?

NCG SUMMARY

A great stand bag option. It’s light, easy to carry and still fits in the majority of your golf gear. Although their isn’t a long designated pocket for a jacket or jumper.

The design follows in its name, minimal, but its refreshing that way. It has a professional nature to it, without being too overpowering.

Having magnetic pockets was a nice change. They were less of an annoyance to operate than zip pockets.

PROS

  • Smart design
  • Magnetic pockets
  • Comfy to carry

First Impressions

Looks fantastic in white, a premium golf bag that looks it’s worth. I don’t usually go for something with eye-catching patterns, that goes for golf apparel as well, I tend to buy a bag that has a more subdued design. This Minimal stand bag fits perfectly with this criteria.

I couldn’t flaw the bag in terms of comfort. The padded strapped, lined with velour, can be used as a single or a double, to maximise comfort for whichever is your preference. The comfort and ease of transporting the bag was also aided by its lightweight build, weighing it at just 2.6kg. A more standard velour-lined grab handle is also placed conveniently located so that lifting it into a car is simpler.

To make the bag environmentally friendly, Minimal use Recycled Seawastex Nylon material to make the bag. This material innovation is part of Minimal’s aim to help protect marine life by helping to reduce the waste entering the water. I think it’s a nice bonus knowing that your golf bag is helping to combat environmental issues, no matter how small.

Minimal do say that the fabric is water-resistant, but due to the fine weather we have had recently I wasn’t able to check how the waterproofing fairs. A seam-sealed rain hood is also included to help with club protection from the elements, a must with the way winter has gone the last few years.

As someone who has never owned a bag with magnetic pockets, they were a bit of a game changer. Ironically, it may seem minimal, but I had it plenty of times over the years when the zips get stuck or break mid-round. Its always during the dead of winter as well, when my hands are already frozen. The magnetic pocket closures get a big thumbs up from me.

Altogether, there are seven exterior pockets and two interior ones, which hold good space for golf equipment. I was able to all the essentials in the bag comfortably, but one thing was missing. For me, I like to have a large pocket for any jumpers and jackets. The pockets provided were a struggle to fit a jumper in, and I definitely wouldn’t be able to store a jacket, waterproofs and a jumper.

Now moving onto the reason for a golf bag, club storage. Minimal’s golf Terra SE1 8.5″ Stand Bag has a five-way divider, two of which are full length. There was room for 14 clubs, I didn’t have to leave any at home. I could play with a full bag. However, saying this, my clubs did get stuck together at times, so in hindsight, it may be best to use the bag with fewer clubs. Saying that it didn’t have any major issues using 14 clubs.

The Minimal bag also comes with some additional features. Things such as a bespoke rangefinder compartment, an umbrella holder space and an insulated cooler pocket.

Minimal Golf Terra SE1 8.5" Stand Bag

Overall, the bag was great. I loved how lightweight and comfortable it was to carry, so much so that I played 27 holes testing it out, and it didn’t make me feel any more fatigued. The design was right up my street, and the sleek look is exactly what I look for in a golf bag.

For those of us who live in a typically wet place, other colours are available and may be suitable be more suitable to stop a quick wear look. This is a near enough an ideal option for a carry bag, if only it had that apparel pocket it would be perfect, in my opinion.

About the author

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
