The TaylorMade P790s have established themselves as the market leading player’s iron. After the success of the previous generations, TaylorMade are looking to deliver a new and improved set of TaylorMade 2025 P790 irons.

A range of golfers can utilise these irons. They are ideal for those who still require some forgiveness whilst searching for quicker ball speeds. Plenty of tour pros have had an iteration of these irons in the bag over the years. However, his hasn’t restricted their playability for club golfers.

TaylorMade have development this year’s model to promote a neutral ball flight bias, a mid-high launch and mid-low spin. Let’s take a look at the technology the brand have included to promote these characteristics…

TaylorMade 2025 P790 Irons: The Technology

TaylorMade have designed the 2025 P790 irons to have a substantially improved feel than in the previous models. To create what TaylorMade are describing as the best in class forged feel, the heads of the irons are filled with SpeedFoam which is paired with individual head optimisation and modal analysis tools.

These technologies also help the irons to deliver an explosive sensation at impact for the benefit of longer irons.

Increased speed, across the set, is promoted on a more consistent basis. To quicken the speeds across the set this year’s P790s showcase an all new ultra high strength, high speed forged face material, a 4340M material.

This material is built to be 20% stronger than that of the previous generations with the increased strength enabling a thinner face. Having a thinner also leads to that increase in ball speed. Additionally, the irons have also retained a high level of forgiveness. The sweet spot area in the face has been increased by 24% after TaylorMade incorporated a stronger face material.

As golfers we are also on the search for more distance from our clubs and irons. TaylorMade have seemingly taken this into account during the design and construction of the 2025 P790 irons as the faster face, individual head optimisation and FLTD CG technologies aides in generating increased carry distances.

FLTD CG is also a new development for 2025 with the designs aiming to best optimise the centre of gravity in each iron. It strategically positions the CG lower in the longer irons to make them more playable for a range of golfers with enhanced launch conditions. Likewise, it progressively shifts higher in the shorter irons for optimal launch to better the spin rate in controlling the ball are easily when hitting into greens.

A more optimal launch and spin window are promoted from these technological inclusions. This allows for better gapping throughout the set. Improved iron gapping helps golfers to have a better understanding of their game whilst being more confident they have the right club in hand when stood over the ball.

In terms of looks, TaylorMade have shaped the irons for elegant performance. This has seen a thinner topline introduced which will benefit those who favour a more compact looking club at address.

Whereas, the increase in sole radius with a progressive leading edge lead to a more consistent turf interaction and an improved impact location.

About the author

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
