This is a proper piece of clothing – like really nice. The Castore x Paul Smith Performance Lightweight Jacket in Sunny Lime is a top-class jacket. First of all, the colour scheme is great, as it is summery, bright and a colour I have rarely seen in the golf clothing market. The style mix conjured here by Paul Smith and Castore is great. The feel of the jacket is great, and that is because it delivers in the lightweight department. Lyle & Scott Lightweight Stretch Jacket
This is a really good lightweight jacket that’s perfect for when it’s a bit breezy but not cold enough for a full layer.
It’s really light and easy to wear, and the packable design is useful as well, you can just keep it in your golf bag and throw it on when you need it. It’s also water-resistant, so it gives you a bit of protection if the weather turns.
The fit is good and allows you to move freely through the swing without feeling restricted. One thing I really liked was the sleeve length. I’m 6’4 and usually struggle with sleeves being too short, but these fit properly which made a big difference.
It’s a simple, clean design with the logo on the chest, so it looks smart without being too much.
Overall, a really useful jacket that is easy to wear, practical and something you’d use a lot.

Original Penguin Heritage Knit Track Jacket
Unless it is the middle of summer, I am usually wearing some manner of outer layer golfing in the UK. This full zip jacket feels quite luxuriously soft. It promises to keep you warm even in the most challenging windy conditions.
The jacket looks very stylish with colour matched nylon zips on the front and two side pockets. The original penguin logo is on the front left. The white contrast piping on the cuffs, pockets and lower seam is quite a nice feature.
The jacket fits well and true is comfortable and warm. It has a nice trim fit but still allows a good range of movement on the course.

Peter Millar Merge Hybrid Jacket
This Merge jacket is another quality piece from Peter Millar, similar to the Fuse Hybrid Gilet. It’s well-made and designed with golfers in mind, fitting close enough to stay out of the way during your swing but with enough room for layering. As someone who does not normally like wearing a jacket when playing golf, this jacket presented no problems at all.

The insulated front panel is water-resistant and windproof, making it perfect for those in-between weather days.
The stretch knit back and sleeves give excellent mobility, so you won’t feel restricted. I also liked the inside pockets, which are handy for storing your phone or scorecard, and the included ball marker gift was a nice touch.
The only small downside was the zip, like with the gilet, it’s a bit fiddly to do up.
Overall, it’s a comfortable, versatile piece that performs well on the course and looks good too. A smart choice for those cooler, unpredictable days.
The price is premium, but the product really feels and looks quality.

The Stuburt Nighthawk Padded Jacket is another one of my favourite releases from Stuburt this year. It stands as super reliable all weather outer layer for the ever unpredictable UK weather, wind proof, shower proof and ideal for keeping warm this year.
It’s designed as a technical outer layer, and that comes through straight away with the lightweight padded construction, which provides solid insulation without feeling bulky. Mizuno Motion Water-repellent Light Jacket
The Mizuno Motion Water-repellent Light Jacket is an excellent outer layer for golfers who need reliable protection without added bulk. Admittedly I have barely worn anything else since receiving it, definitely my favourite item of the 2026 apparel released.
It’s a modern clean look suitable for wearing both on and off the golf course, easily layerable and packs well into your golf bag. It is available in two colourways both of which with subtle branding on the neck and left chest.
What stands out most is its lightweight construction, which makes it easy to wear over a polo without restricting movement. The stretch fabric and streamlined fit allow for a full, unrestricted swing, while the full-zip design adds practical versatility for changing temperatures.
Overall, this will be getting some serious wear from me throughout the year. Very comfortable, great design and a solid option for both on and off the golf course.

Sunderland Typhoon Jacket
Probably the best value rain jacket on the market!
Sunderland have a mantra, #NEVERWEATHERBEATEN, and it’s written onto the inside pocket of this jacket. You can be as sceptical as you like, but I reckon I could wear this in a hurricane and still come out dry on the other side.
But the outer shell is very soft to the touch and remains so as you’re putting it on. This jacket moves with you, it doesn’t work against you.

The rain can’t permeate that layer however hard it falls. And believe me, I’ve seen it falling over the last couple of weeks. Gratefully, that liquid is not deflected either. It doesn’t run down off the jacket and onto your trousers as I’ve seen so many others do.
In fact, it’s so impressive you must remember to shake it off when you get into a drier space.

Adidas Climaproof Waterproof Anorak Golf Jacket
This is probably my favourite piece of golfing clothing I’ve had in a while. I’ve had a few golf anoraks over the years, one of which was an Adidas offering, and this is easily the best I have worn. It is waterproof, offers solid protection in even the most tricky of weather conditions and works to keep the golfer warm all whist allowing golfers to swing freely without being restricted.
The design is bold, but it is one I like. It’s of course a modern golf look but I’m all about that, I love where golf fashion is heading, and this is the anthesis of that. I think the cameo like design is cool and i would certainly wear this away from the course as well as on it. A slight downside is the price, but you are getting a quality anorak for your money.

FootJoy HydroTour Jacket
The latest iteration of the HydroTour builds on the strengths of previous models.
The 3-layer fabric delivers strong waterproofing, breathability and windproofing features which makes it quite a warm jacket.
It offers 4-way stretch for ease of swinging. All zips are seam sealed. You get the benefit of DrySeal technology to the collar. Essentially this is an inner collar which sits closely and comfortable to the back of your neck whilst an outer collar allows water to drain away through some grommets (see picture carousel). It’s quite neat but you may well get more benefit from wearing a wide-brimmed rainhat.
I tested the version in medium in Niagara/Flint colourway which looked smart and stylish. The sizing was just about ok. If in doubt, size up. I’d regard this very much as a third layer to be worn over a polo and thin midlayer, because it is pretty insulating. I was pleased to see the underarm zip vents which are easy to operate and do really help to cool you down.
On the course, I could swing comfortably with no excess rustling or other noise. The two zippered pockets were fleece lined and a decent size. I also liked the internal left breast pocket. The DrySeal collar was easy to use and provided added comfort.
I have tested the jacket in showery conditions and, as you would expect, I remained dry and comfortable with no hint of water ingress.
If the rain stops and you want to stow your jacket, you will find that it takes up a bit of space when compared to a lighter weight rainjacket. And it is this slight lack of flexibility of use that prevents this jacket getting a full five stars.
It comes with a three-year waterproof warranty, and I’m sure will keep you dry and warm over those winter months.

Stromberg Weather Tech Waterproof Golf Jacket
The Stromberg Men’s Weather Tech waterproof jacket was a joy to wear. I tested the dark blue version which I really like the look of. A really clean aesthetic with some tidily placed Stromberg branding that sits parallel to the zip.
Usefully, the jacket comes equipped with two front pockets which have zips so you can easily store your valuables.
Playing in the jacket was really easy, no restriction on my swing and was incredibly lightweight.
It was really easy to slide on and off in time for the start and end of an unexpected shower and due to the lightweight and flexibility it helped when packing the jacket away into my bag. It rolls up really easily and fits into your medium size pocket of your bag with no issues.
Overall I really like Stromberg’s latest tech waterproof, looks really smart, pacticial for all year around and a good price point for golf apparel.

Best Lightweight Golf Jackets 2026 – Women’s
Abacus Ladies Carden Midlayer Jacket
Last year I got sent a Carden midlayer jacket from Abacus and i can safely say it’s had plenty of wear – so to receive another colourway is very exciting! I really like the knitted pattern of this jacket. Th material has a thick feel but is very stretchy. I wore this in the same size as my other jacket a small which is my standard size and a nice fit.
It’s very easy to swing in and over the winter I’ve worn clothes under and gilets over and that doesn’tchange. It’s nice that this jacket has zipped pockets on either side too.
Overall, I look forward to wearing this as much as i do my current one – a great all year round midlayer.

Ping Inga Ladies Lightweight Jacket
I’ll be honest — I’d never usually pick a white jacket, but this one completely changed my mind. It looks incredibly fresh and smart on and feels much more wearable than you’d expect.
I wore it on a slightly chilly day and needed a midlayer underneath, but there’s plenty of room without it feeling bulky. It’s lightweight and super stretchy, so you get full freedom through the swing, and the windproof fabric gives just enough protection when the breeze picks up. Will also be perfect for summer over a t-shirt.
The fit is really flattering, with nice secure cuffs that stay put and don’t interfere with your game. The zip pockets are practical without adding bulk, and I like the subtle venting which keeps it feeling breathable as you move.
This is one of those pieces that will come into its own on cooler summer days — easy, stylish and genuinely functional.
