Introduction

Golf is going back to its roots with smaller and lighter golf bags being all the craze. Sunday Golf caters to this market with a series of smaller bags designed to fit half a set of clubs in. The Loma XL is not the smallest golf bag they offer but it is still very compact. Let’s see how it performs out on the course with our full Sunday Golf Loma XL carry bag review…

NCG Summary

The Loma XL from Sunday Golf is a great little golf bag. It has a 3 way top that can hold up to 8 clubs – 9 at a push! It’s slim and lightweight weighing in at just 1.5kg.

Unlike some smaller bags the club dividers are full length and there is a padded double strap to make carrying easier. Full length legs keep the bag stable on the ground and a firm carry handle at the top is great to help pick it up and go.

First Impressions

Out of the packaging I was really impressed to see what is a well structured golf bag but only much smaller than I’m use to. Pencil bags are a big craze but I did like having stand legs on a bag especially in winter so I’m not dropping it in mud.

The material make up of the bag felt to be a high quality. The base of the bag isn’t a hard base like most it’s soft yet very thick and of a durable material.

There is a 3-way top divider top and this is designed to fit up to 8 clubs in. This won’t suit everyone but if you’re not planning on carrying a full set it’s a great option.

This bag is very lightweight, weighing in at just 1.5kg. Full double straps have been used so it sit’s just like you would expect from a carry bag. A sturdy handle on the top is a great addition to help just grab and go.

For a small bag Sunday Golf hasn’t skimped on features, you still get a plenty of pockets including frosted, valuables, ball and a larger side pocket. There is a glove, towel, tee/pencil holder as well as a mesh pocket.

How I undertook the review

I took it out for a full round at Hickleton Golf Club, where I’m a member.

I paid close attention to how comfortable the bag was to carry, and even put on a trolley, how well it held up in terms of durability, and whether it offered enough storage for everything I needed. My goal was to provide an honest account of how the bag stands up during actual play.

Additionally, I’ve included a comparison section further down, where I look at how this bag stacks up against similar models in its class.

What I found

I’m a player who is use to taking a full set out with me so whittling it down to 8 clubs was an interesting start. This is more the amount I take out in winter and I could very much see this being a great winter bag for a lot of players. Equally for beginners or juniors who don’t carry many clubs or the golfers who simply like a half set.

In terms of internal space I didn’t feel like I had to skimp on what came out on the course with me. There was space for my drinks bottle, waterproofs, enough balls and some snacks – that’s good enough for me.

Carrying the Loma XL around the course was nice. It was of course very lightweight and smaller than how I’m use to a bag sitting. It was fairly comfortable, the straps aren’t packed with foam but they do a good job. I did also take the Loma XL out on a trolley. It did well after tightening the straps and the legs of the bag to the velcro fasten in.

Sunday Golf doesn’t state that this is a waterproof golf bag but it does come with waterproof zips, so you’re covered if you do get caught out in the rain. However, it doesn’t come with a rain hood.

I liked the firm carry handle at the top, so I could just quickly grab the bag and say walk if needed. It was very handy.

As you would expect the LOMA XL fits nicely in a car and doesn’t take up lots of space.

NCG Final Say

Overall, this is a great sunday bag if you’re wanting something slimline and lightweight. It’s not the sort of bag I’d use week in week out but it’s a great option for winter or for a quick 9 holes after work.

It is also ideal for juniors or for those starting out in the game.

How it compares to other bags

The Ping Moonlander Golf Stand Bag is one of the other lightweight, smaller stand bags on the market weighing in at 2 kg but the Sunday Golf Loma XL is 0.5 kg less.

The MacGregor Principal 7 Inch Stand Bag is larger but still represents outstanding value.
