PGA Tour preview: Memorial Tournament
As the dust settles on another great week at the Charles Schwab Challenge, won by Sam Burns, we now head to the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village. With a field packed full of the greatest names in the game, I really have got my work cut out to find the winner. After analysing the runners and riders, I have picked out three tips to get you on your way with this one. But before I get into my free golf betting tips…
- DP WORLD TOUR PREVIEW: Porsche European Open
Memorial Tournament details
Venue: Muirfield Village Golf Club, Ohio, USA
Date: June 2-5, 2022
Course stats: Par 72; 7,456 yards
Course summary: This famous Jack Nicklaus and Desmond Muirhead design has plenty of character. Undulating, tree-lined fairways weave towards tricky green complexes made up of a Bentgrass and Poa Annua blend. Water is in play on 11 holes, whilst thick rough, heavy bunkering and a recent renovation increase the level of challenge. This is a true ball-striker’s paradise, with accuracy perhaps prevailing over distance.
Purse: $8.4 million
Defending champion: Patrick Cantlay (-13)

Memorial Tournament golf betting tips
Bazza’s Banker: Xander Schauffele @ 20/1 with Bet365
Every now and then a tournament comes along that suits Schauffele’s profile.
Despite finding it hard to win in the past, this would be one of his biggest victories to date. Schauffele undoubtedly has immense talent, but is often accused of not winning enough, which is why I believe you can get him at such a good price this week.
Schauffele has a great record here, with four consecutive top-14 finishes in his last four appearances. His recent form has also been strong, with four top-15 finishes in his last six – including a team win at the Zurich Classic.
Another thing that impresses me about Schauffele is his consistency, ranking 4th for SG: Total in the last four years with a 27% top-5 finish rate. Need I say more?
The Each-Way Play: Shane Lowry @ 25/1 with Bet365
Shane Lowry is one of the form players on any professional tour at this moment in time, and I refuse to believe that a player with his consistent elite performances won’t turn that into a win very soon. Lowry has had two third place finishes in his last four, and five top-13 finishes in his last seven. As yet, things haven’t quite clicked but I believe that Muirfield Village represents a great opportunity to change that.
In the last three months, Lowry ranks 2nd for SG: Total, with his approach play and putting being particular strengths. That skillset matches perfectly with this track, and while he will need to bring it all together once again, I like his chances as a very solid each-way bet.
The Long Shot: Mito Pereira @ 55/1 with Bet365
Pereira was desperately unlucky at the PGA Championship a couple of events back, but instead of dwelling he put his best foot forward and delivered a solid performance at last week’s Charles Schwab Challenge. That gutsy attitude is what will make him a regular PGA Tour winner, and this would be a great place to start.
As a newbie to Muirfield, he will need to learn quickly, but his game suggests he will manage the test. The Chilean ranks 15th for SG: Approach and 17th for SG: Tee-to-Green in the last three months, while his ability to dismantle Southern Hills at times was inspiring. At a reasonable price, and at what appears to be a good time, he is one of my favourite outsider bets of the year so far.
