Porsche European Open TV times and betting tips
After a simply sublime display of golf from Bernd Wiesberger in Denmark last week, the European Tour rolls on to Germany and the Porsche European Open. This prestigious event has a slightly different look to it this year, with a Saturday start and only 54 holes to be contested. Still, there are plenty of worthy contenders battling it out for the trophy and I think I may have found three of the best to share with you. But first…
Porsche European Open details
Venue: Green Eagle Golf Courses (North Course), Germany
Date: June 5-7, 2021
Course stats: Par 72; 7,544 yards
Course summary: Despite this tricky track being relatively open, do not be deceived about the challenges that face the players, with water in-play on 17 holes. Large, undulating, well-bunkered greens sprawl across the landscape, with five par-5s for players to gamble on. Players will need strong approach play and creative putting to negotiate the undulations on the greens, with the winning score yet to exceed 14-under-par on this course.

Defending champion: Paul Casey (-14)
How to watch
Saturday: Sky Sports Golf from 1pm.

Who will win the European Open?
Bazza’s Banker: Sam Horsfield @ 25/1 with Bet365
Sam Horsfield arrives in Germany this week after a run of respectable results, including 3rd in Kenya and 4th in Gran Canaria. In fact, Horsfield has not finished outside the top-21 in any European Tour event this season – if you discount a gritty T49 finish at the PGA Championship last time out. This course, where he finished 14th in 2019, will suit him down to the ground as it requires precise iron play. Horsfield currently ranks 1st for SG: Approach this season, a key measure for success here, and I believe he represents great value in comparison to other market leaders in this event.
The next best: Laurie Canter @ 30/1 with Bet365
Canter showed glimpses of a return to form last week in Denmark, demonstrating signs of his scintillating 2020 displays. He has been moving in the right direction since the start of the season, with form reading 48-40-30-8 in his last four events, and now could be a good time to side with the Englishman. Canter ranks 7th for SG: Tee-to-green and 6th for GIR, so should have no trouble rising to the challenge at Green Eagles. If he can get a fast start, he could be the dangerman in this reduced 54-hole contest.
The long shot: Kalle Samooja @ 55/1 with Bet365
In this type of contest, Samooja could prove a shrewd move as he is a typically fast starter. In his last three starts he has two top-10 finishes and should suit the course based on his stats this season. Samooja currently ranks 28th for SG: Approach and 5th for SG: Putting this season, which could be a deadly combination should it all come together this week. If Samooja can get off to a flyer, there may not be many that can catch him and I like his chances at a big price.
