NCG SUMMARY

The TP5 is one of TaylorMade’s best selling premium golf balls. Being gamed already by Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa, the 2026 TP5 is a great edition to any player’s kit.

An updated Tour Flight Dimple Pattern in the TP5 means that it can produce a more penetrating ball flight than before. Spin numbers were also very impressive with wedges.

Overall, a premium golf ball that allows for premium performance.

PROS

  • Seriously impressive short game spin
  • Strong ball flight
  • Increased mid iron spin

First Impressions

The packaging of the 2026 TP5 looks very familiar. It follows the same grey and blue colourway as the previous model. The pattern does differ slightly and so does the technology explanation which is a lot more simple for this year.

The ball itself has had a slight upgrade with the alignment line changing from a solid line to two lines, looks very smart.

NCG Review

So, what’s new for 2026? TaylorMade has really changed up some of their production methods with this new ball. They found that previously excess paint had a tendency to pool in the bottom of the dimples. This would therefore cause the surface of the balls to be uneven, which can result in inconsistent ball flight and overall performance. For 2026, TaylorMade developed a revolutionary microcoating process. This ensures that an ultra thin layer of paint is covered across the entire ball.

TaylorMade has also updated the core in the TP5. This is their largest core, aimed at decreasing the contact time on the club face at impact. Meaning that there is an increased energy retention and faster ball speeds on full-swing shots. A new dimple pattern has also been used to minimise turbulence in flight. This is designed to help with the ball in wind, stopping it from ballooning.

It’s been a while since I got to hit a TaylorMade TP5 and so I was interested to see how it performed. I hit the 2024 model during the testing to compare data and see what has actually changed. I tested them both on the course and at an indoor studio using a SkyTrak launch monitor to gather data.

Starting with my 58°, wow both these balls are impressive! Aiming to hit a 50 yard shot it’s impressive to see both the previous model TP5 and the new 2026 ball spinning well into the 7000RPM’s. The 2026 did average slightly higher spin rates by 200RPM which was nice to see.

Moving onto 7 iron, the 2024 model seemed to fly marginally higher than the new ball. The 2026 TP5 averaged 5705RPM of spin which is some of the highest mid iron spin I’ve seen. I personally really like this as a player who often struggles to get the ball to stop with irons into greens, especially on firmer courses. All of the other data was very similar, wasn’t much between carry numbers and the launch angle and ball speed was the exact same.

Driver was what I was most excited to test with the new TP5 golf ball. Rory McIlory has already made the switch into this ball and so it’s got to be pretty good, right?

As the data tables above show, the data between the two balls was almost identical. Which you can look at one of two ways. Yes, there’s not a huge difference between models or these two balls are just fantastic performers off the tee!

There’s a nice amount of spin, doesn’t feel like the ball is going to dip out the air. The carry was also strong given my lack of swing speed in these colder months. I also felt like even with a miss hit the ball still seemed to travel which was nice.

NCG Verdict

Overall, I think this is a really strong product from TaylorMade. Both the 2024 and 2026 TP5’s are great golf balls but if you’re looking for a little more spin with irons and wedges, the new model will absolutely do that!
