Raw technology is all the rage at the moment – not only on tour but among club golfers too – so it isn’t all that surprising to see it incorporated in the popular TaylorMade Hi-Toe wedges line-up for 2021.
The Hi-Toe wedges have always been easy on the eye and the 2021 upgrade is no different, especially that lovely copper finish.
So what’s new for this year? Let’s take a closer look…
TaylorMade Hi-Toe wedges: The Line-up
So there are actually two new offerings this year – the standard Hi-Toe Raw and the more forgiving Hi-Toe Big Foot.
The key differences here are in the width of the sole and the amount of bounce on offer.
As the Big Foot is more of a game improvement offering we see the super wide sole which is 32mm compared to 26mm in the standard Hi-Toe. The sole also has a whooping 15 degrees of bounce which is to prevent digging and – in a nutshell – easier to hit.
TaylorMade Hi-Toe wedges: The technology
The Hi-Toe theory is all about that distinctive shaping that moves the centre of gravity higher for lower launch and more spin.
The significant new technology here is where the name comes in – the raw face. This will increase spin and precision thanks to narrower and deeper grooves as well as laser etching on the face. How cool does it look?
What I really like about this is the Raw face will gradually rust over time and give you this lovely copper colour to match the rest of the clubhead.
As we saw with the previous Hi-Toe models the higher lofts feature full-face score lines – so grooves that cover the entire face – which will help you get better contact when playing out of the thick rough and increase spin across the face.
There has been some reshaping of this years offering. There is a slightly thinner topline and more weight has be redistributed nearer to the top of the wedge to optimise the CG location and dial in your flight.
