Playing the right shaft can help your game more than you realise, so here is a guide to which Fujikura Ventus golf shaft is best for you

Fujikura’s Ventus line has become the shaft of choice for the best players in the world. 2025 turned out to be a historic year for the brand with every men’s major champion utilising a Ventus in the bag. Therefore the brand seems to be on the tips of everyone’s lips in golf at the minute.

Golf club shafts can be tricky for club golfers to get their heads around. It’s difficult to understand which shafts we should all have in play, but Fujikura are making it an increasingly easier choice to choose one from their Ventus range due to their incredible performance on tour.

But which version of this tour-winning shaft should you be putting in play? We put the range to the test, with insight from Fujikura’s own experts and our very own PGA Professional Jack Backhouse, to find out.

Mid Launch and Spin

If your swing speed is moderate or you naturally struggle to launch the ball high enough, the Ventus Red is likely your best bet. With a softer tip section, it’s designed to help present more loft at impact and keep the ball in the air with a playable peak height.

During Backhouse’s testing of the range, he found the Red provided plenty of stability without feeling ‘whippy’, which some lightweight shafts can sometimes be guilty of. It is also obvious that the Ventus Red offers the most help in adding a bit of kick and speed into each strike off the tee. This helps to get the ball up into the air a lot easier.

Fujikura Tour Representative, Marshall Thompson, said: “As we get slower, we don’t generate as much spin, so we might need a shaft that produces a little bit more dynamic loft. So with that, maybe a Ventus red, Ventus White might work a little bit better to help create a little bit more dynamic loft, hit the ball a little bit higher, keep the ball in the air due to the spin. If you’re a low spin player, I think red and white would be automatically where I go.”

Penetrating Ball Flight

The Ventus Blue is Fujikura’s most versatile offering. With a stiffer tip than the Red, it reduces spin and keeps the ball flight more penetrating, which makes ideal for players who already hit it high and want to tighten dispersion.

While not as soft-feeling as the Red, the Blue offered an excellent balance of launch, spin, and consistency. From our experiences, compared to the Red shaft, it is noticeable that you do have to work a little harder to achieve the same speed. However, we were still impressed with the performance levels.

It’s the shaft that fits a wide range of golfers, especially those wanting stability without feeling like they’re swinging a steel rod. “Blue is for maybe a smooth loader of the golf ball, but still wants stability and control down at the tip section”, Thompson said.

Stiff and Stable

The Ventus Black is the low-launch, low-spin beast trusted by the likes of Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler. It’s ultra-stiff from handle to tip, delivering maximum stability and the tightest dispersions.

For the average golfer, the Ventus Black may feel fairly rigid and like swinging a fire poker as it offers no kick or help in adding speed. But for stronger, faster swings, this is the shaft that keeps the ball on a rope. Our testing showed this produced the most consistent spin and carry numbers of the set, proving why it has had such a historic year on tour.

Thompson added: “Black is for the player that’s bringing the heat, you know that he needed. He doesn’t want to feel any lag whatsoever throughout his swing. He just wants something that he knows where the face is going to be, and he might need lower launch and lower spin.”

High Launch and Spin

Additionally, the Ventus White is a great option for those with even slower swing speeds. We are yet to get our hands on yet, but Fujikura say this is a lightweight shaft option. It features a softer handle, a firm tip and a medium mid. This all helps to increase the spin and launch capabilities without effecting the consistency and stability which Ventus shafts are known for.

This is in fact the lightest shaft in the Ventus range being a sub 50g profile. But fear not, Fujikura hasn’t sacrificed any of the technology found in the other shafts, it still features all the same VeloCore+ technology benefits.

It is designed for golfers looking to increase their club head speed and launch the golf ball higher without sacrificing the stability of their driver shaft.

Get Fitted

Although each shaft is designed for a specific group of golfers there is no guarantee that this will be the most optimal shaft for your game. We always recommend golfers to go and get fitted to get the most complete shaft for their game.

Even the pros aren’t all fitted into the Ventus Black, with Tommy Fleetwood currently finding success with the Ventus Red. US Open champion, JJ Spaun, prefers the versatility and the penetrating ball flight struck from the Ventus Blue in his driver set-up.

Thompson said: “I can’t pigeon hole these certain types of players into certain types of shafts. It’s one of those things where you just, you got to try and see what shaft promotes the best center face contact for my swing. Which what shaft gives me the best starting direction, whether it’s right or left, depending on the shot that I want to play for my swing.

“And then you know what shaft consistently helps hit the center of the face if it gives me the correct launch and spin and peak height for my swing.”

Whilst your driver shaft set-up, get your whole woods set-up fitted as well. Ventus TR Red, TR Blue and TR Black are all available for your woods. Don’t forget about your utility irons and wedges. Fujikura’s Ventus range includes the Ventus HB (red, blue, black) for utility irons and hybrids.

Which shafts do you have in your driver and clubs currently? Let us know on X!

About the author

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
