Golf clothing often walks a fine line between modern and traditional styling. But the Castore x Paul Smith Golf Collection offers something that feels both fresh and familiar.

This latest drop brings together two British clothing heavyweights to deliver a collection that feels rooted in tradition, yet has a sharp ficus on the modern game.

But this isn’t just about the looks. Each piece in the collection is built to perform out on the course, from lightweight polos to versatile mid-layers.

We have picked out some standout pieces that we think deserve a place in your wardrobe…

Castore X Paul Smith Tech Trouser

Well, this is an exciting partnership. A cornerstone of British fashion in Paul Smith with one of sport’s most innovative designers. It works too. These technical trousers are up there in the price stakes – at £105 – but they’re very well put together, comfortable, and lightweight. These might all seem like givens, but it’s amazing how many fail at the first sign of a shower or make you wilt in the heat.

These perform equally well in both. The mesh-lined pockets are a really good size. The trousers don’t hitch, or snag when you’re swinging, and the ridged branding above the pocket is a nice touch. I like the straight leg, but it feels unusual as manufacturers lean towards a tapered hem, and Castore’s insistence on only catering to people who are a ‘regular’ leg is a headscratcher.

PROS

  • Very lightweight and comfortable
  • Good size pockets
  • Easy to move and swing in

CONS

  • Straight leg might not appeal players used to a tapered hem
  • There are other sizes beside ‘regular’

RRP: £105

Castore X Paul Smith Performance Printed Polo

Maybe I’m something of an attention seeker, but I like my polo shirts to be eye-catching. This Castore-Paul Smith combination is certainly that. The teal printed pattern is bold but not overbearing, the fit is sleek without being tight, and the fabric performs superbly in the warm weather.

As someone who uses a lot of sunscreen, I’m forever ruining the neck lining of polo shirts when applying a cream. But, so far, this polo shirt looks like it will offer some resistance when my neck is rubbing against the collar. If so, that’s a huge positive and is probably worth the price tag on its own.

The branded stripe on the back of the polo shirt, and the rabbit print detail, are nice subtle touches. This will probably be my go-to shirt in 2026.

PROS

  • Moisture wicking is superb
  • Fabric feels sun-cream friendly
  • A delight to wear and swing in

CONS

  • I love the bold pattern, but it might not be for all tastes

Castore X Paul Smith Performance Lightweight Jacket

This is a proper piece of clothing – like really nice. The Castore x Paul Smith Performance Lightweight Jacket in Sunny Lime is a top-class jacket. First of all, the colour scheme is great, as it is summery, bright and a colour I have rarely seen in the golf clothing market. The style mix conjured here by Paul Smith and Castore is great. The feel of the jacket is great, and that is because it delivers in the lightweight department. You can barely feel it on you and that is because of the 360-stretch material and the breathable fabric. The jacket allows complete freedom of movement when you are out on the golf course.

It is perfect for those summer days on the fairways when there is some light drizzle, or chill in the air. I’d even go as far to say that you could wear this jacket in social settings, so it has that off-course versatility.

PROS

  • Great colour scheme
  • Lightweight feel is great
  • Complete freedom of movement

CONS

  • Premium price

RRP: £165

Sizes:  XS-2XL

Colours:  Sunny Lime / Black

Castore X Paul Smith Technical Quarter Zip

5 star review
Castore Men’s x Paul Smith Technical Quarter Zip Top | Source: NCG
Castore Men’s x Paul Smith Technical Quarter Zip Top | Source: NCG

The Castore x Paul Smith Technical Quarter Zip Top is a great piece of clothing. To begin with, it looks great. The teal colour is a really satisfying shade and can match with pretty much every other colour that you wear on the bottom. The quarter zip is engineered for movement and that is abundantly clear as soon as you start swinging your golf clubs or have your golf bag on your back.

I am a sucker for a quarter zip, but they are the perfect golf garment, and with it being water resistant it will definitely get a lot of use from me throughtout the year.

The feel of the Castore x Paul Smith Technical Quarter Zip Top is quite compact, there is a little tightness, but there is still that freedom of movement element. It will definitely become a go-to for when in the next few months. It has been made to become a staple of your wardrobe, and I can definitely see that happening.

PROS

  • Very smart and great colour
  • Complete freedom of movement
  • Lightweight feel

CONS

  • Would like to see more colour choices

RRP: £95

Sizes:  XS-2XL

Colours:  Teal / Charcoal

Castore Golf x Paul Smith – Summary

This feels like a collection which symbolises where golf clothing is heading. It was once the case that you had to choose between traditional and casual styling, but now you can have both.

The Castore x Paul Smith collaboration manages to carve out its own space. It’s not just about how the pieces perform, it’s about how comfortable you are wearing them.

About the author

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
