Thomas Detry is a Belgian golfer who before turning professional had a stellar amateur career.
He won the Dutch Junior Open at just 16 years of age before embarking on going to College in the US at the University of Illinois from 2012-2016. In 2016 he was ranked the 5th best amateur golfer in the world.
In 2016 he turned professional and began competing on the European Challenge Tour. His 1st victory on the Challenge Tour, at the Bridgestone Challenge 2016, set a new record for winning margin on the Challenge Tour – winning by 12 shots.
In 2018 he was part of the Belgian World Cup winning team, partnering Thomas Pieters to victory in Melbourne, Australia.
After finishing runner up twice on the DP World Tour he has finally secured his first PGA Tour win at the Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale – firing a sensational birdie 2 at the infamous 16th par 3 hole on the final day. He eventually won by 7 shots. He also becomes the first Belgian to win on the PGA Tour.
2024 saw him put in some good performances in the majors – finishing tied 4th at the PGA Championship and tied 14th at US Open – and after his sterling performance at the Phoenix Open he will be heading into the 2025 majors with confidence.
What’s in Thomas Detry’s bag?
Thomas is a Callaway staffer from top to bottom, including the golf ball.
Interestingly, though donning the Callaway Elyte cap and wood covers, he has not yet put the new Callaway Elyte 2025 equipment into the bag.
At the top of the bag he is currently teeing off with the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond driver. He uses the same model for his 3 wood but in the HL model. When it comes to the hybrid he opts for a two hybrid and is the Epic model.
