John Daly, born April 28, 1966, is one of the most colorful and unconventional figures in professional golf. Known affectionately as “Long John” for his prodigious driving distance, Daly’s on-course exploits are legendary—marked by incredible power, a distinctive swing, and a penchant for the unpredictable. His career boasts notable highlights, including a dramatic “zero-to-hero” victory at the 1991 PGA Championship, where he emerged from the shadows as an underdog, and a memorable playoff win at the 1995 Open Championship at St. Andrews. Daly’s global victories extend beyond the U.S., with wins in South Africa, Germany, and Asia, showcasing his international appeal.

Daly’s signature style—marked by a long, flowing backswing and a rebellious attitude—has made him a fan favorite and a media sensation.

His career is a rollercoaster of triumphs and controversies, from leading the PGA Tour in driving distance 11 times to struggles with personal issues, notably his battles with alcohol and gambling. Despite facing numerous setbacks – including a cancer diagnosis in 2020 – Daly has shown resilience, winning on the PGA Tour Champions and maintaining a loyal following.

Off the course, Daly is also an entrepreneur, designing golf courses, endorsing apparel, and even pursuing a music career. His life story is as intriguing as his game, filled with remarkable achievements, personal struggles, and a relentless spirit.
