The question we all want answered: How much is a pint at The Open?
When you come to The Open Championship, you need to be refreshed and fed for your day at the golf – but how much will this cost you? Matt Coles reveals all…
Forget the players and the Claret Jug, it’s the question on the tip of everyone’s tongue. How much is a pint at the Open?
While you follow the world’s best around the dunes of Royal Liverpool, you’ll want the odd pitstop along the way to make sure you’re fed and watered and not left wanting for refreshment and gasping for a beverage.
‘The Open Arms’ answers that question. If you fancy a pint, it will set you back £7.50. Whether that’s a Singha lager, Whitstable Bay pale ale or stout, or an Orchard View cider. An alcohol-free bottle of Heineken will cost you £4.50 for 330ml.
A 187ml glass of wine, whether it be Sauvignon Blanc, Pale Rose or Malbec, will cost £8, while a 125ml glass of alcohol-free sparkling Chardonnay will be £7, with a bottle costing £25. If you fancy pushing the boat out and getting yourself some champagne, then it will be £14 for a 125ml glass, with a bottle stretching to £70.
Spirits start at £5.50 in ‘The Open Arms’, with plenty of different flavours of gin, rum, and whisky available. Meanwhile, for the kids and those who don’t fancy a drink, soft drinks start at £2.50 with a variety of carbonated cans and fruit juices on offer.
But what do you pair the drink with? The usual choice would be a cheeseburger, and at ‘The Iron Grillhouse’, that will set you back £13, but it does come with chips.
The plant-based version, and a hot dog, both cost the same, with chips on their own at £5. The ‘Meet + Greet’ also does burgers, with their prices in the same range as the grill house. If you fancy something different, ‘Lola’s Fish and Chips’ will set you back £13 for a standard portion.
There’s plenty on offer at the Open Championship this week at Royal Liverpool, but what would be your go-to choice while wandering the links?

Mention a European country, and Matt will tell you which resorts make the National Club Golfer Top 100s: European Resorts list. He might even throw in who designed the golf course and how many rooms the hotel has got at each one…
Matt got into the game of golf from a young age, following his old man to the local golf club. He fell for the sport, and now can’t seem to go a day without thinking about how to improve his game (Thanks Dad!). Matt has been a member of Howley Hall GC in Leeds since 2020, and is just about managing to maintain a single-figure handicap. He likes to remind people that he once broke 75, but won’t tell people that it was on a shortened course during the winter.
He moved to Leeds after graduating from the University of Central Lancashire with a First Class Honours degree in Sports Journalism. Matt joined NCG after almost five years travelling the world with the Professional Squash Association, working on events in all four corners of the globe.
Matt currently plays a Cobra King LTDx driver and RadSpeed 3-wood. TaylorMade monopolise the rest of his bag, with a SIM UDI, M5 irons and both Milled Grind and HI-TOE wedges, along with a Monza Redline putter. He uses a Vice Pro Plus golf ball, because he’s a bit different…
Away from golf, Matt is a Manchester United fan, and a keen runner, having ran the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon (his first and possibly last), in May 2023.
