Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg is one of golf’s newest superstars. Having turned professional in just June of 2023, within three months he had been selected by Luke Donald as a captain’s pick for the Ryder Cup.
Prior to turning professional, Aberg was the top ranked amateur on the World Golf Amateur Rankings. He spent a total of 29 weeks at the summit of those rankings, and only relinquished the top spot because he turned professional. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Aberg spent time back in Europe, winning twice on the Swedish Golf Tour. He was victorious at the Katrineholm Open and the Barseback Resort Masters.
During his time at Texas Tech University, Aberg showed his class. He was the recipient of the Ben Hogan Award in both 2022 and 2023, becoming the first player since Jon Rahm to win the award twice. He won a TTU-record eight times, and he became the first golfer to win back-to-back Big 12 Conference Championship titles, doing so in 2022 and 2023. In his final season, he played in nine events, finishing in the top-10 in all nine.
Having played several times on the PGA Tour as an amateur, his first tournament as a professional came at the RBC Canadian Open, where he finished T25. He took his first win on the DP World Tour in September 2023, birdieing four of his final five holes on Sunday afternoon to win the Omega European Masters in Switzerland. That victory helped him into the Ryder Cup, with Team Europe captain Luke Donald selecting the Swede, where he became the first player at the tournament who was yet to play at a major championship. A couple of months later, he also claimed a maiden PGA Tour title, winning the RSM Classic. Aberg then went on to win the Genesis Invitational – his first Signature Event crown on the PGA Tour – in February 2025.
