Cameron Smith is the leading Australian in the world of men’s golf, with a major title and wins on the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and LIV Golf.
Smith was born in Brisbane in August 1993, and took up the game at a young age. His father was club captain at Wantima Country Club, with Cameron first picking up a golf club at the age of just 2. Wins in the Australian Boys Amateur and Australian Amateur during his teenage years was almost an insight into what would come in his professional career.
The Australian played on the PGA Tour of Australasia and Asian Tour before making the jump to the PGA Tour in 2015. However, he would have to wait another couple of years before his maiden professional victory. That came in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, an event he would win again in 2021 alongside compatriot Marc Leishman.
Smith won the Open Championship in 2022 for his maiden major title, before then joining the rebel LIV Golf League. He has gone on to win three times in LIV Golf since his switch, with victories in Chicago, London and Bedminster. He is the captain of Ripper GC – the all-Australian team in the league – with the quartet winning the LIV Golf Team Championship in Dallas in 2024.
